IMHO why would anyone relocate there. If you are going to relocate in retirement you would want to go somewhere where the cost of living was cheaper as well as the cost of poon.

For my money the Philippines would be the place followed by Thailand. Housing and everything else is soooo much cheaper.

Another interesting poll from Senor Prolijo and again the intervening years leave it open to poll again.
My answer: 2 years til retirement then I'm THERE; meanwhile I'll content myself with 2 visits/year.

Though I do plan on increasing my time in CR from "two" month long trips to "four" month long trips each year.

By living in the U.S. and visiting CR on a regular basis....I can have the best of both worlds. 8)

I'll retire in 12 years. Then, I'll travel often. I don't want to relocate, but I would want to spend 4 months in a year. In the meantime I have to settle for traveling twice a year.

Already here and just got the word my application for residency was accepted so I now have a 'don't have to leave the country' receipt. Now just another few years and I might get the cedula!!!

After 35+/- visits, I still can't see myself living there full time. Nice place to visit, glad I have a place there. But, can't see it full time.

When I first started traveling to the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica, I dreamed of the day when I could live down there permenantly.

Now, I realize that is is much more enjoyable to simply stay there for a month or so, and then either head back to the U.S. or on to another country. Especially with the nice prices one can get on short term apartments, it makes more sense for me to have a small place in the U.S. that is almost paid off where I can hang my clothes, and spend extended stays in these countries.

I really don't think I could tolerate living in ANY of these countries permenantly.

I am happy with the part of the country that i call home(New Mexico) because it's a very laid back place.I already spend about 2and a half months out of the country so i'm happy with that mix.

There are some advantages to living out of the country. There's a roughly $90,000 foreign living allowance tax credit that can be upped to about $120,000 with property and other deductions. However, you have to be out of the country for more than 300 days a year.

And, while it's no longer quite so cheap to live here, having no tax can really take the sting off it.

I cannot see myself living in C.R., but if I did I will tell you this:

* Pu*sy alone isn't reason enough to make the move. I've seen a number of my friends in CRT make this mistake, only to become disillusioned and return home, often poorer for the experience.

* I could never live in San Jose proper; even many of the outlying areas of the Central Valley are too crowded and polluted for my tastes. Towns like Grecia, Atenas, Palmares Norte and Oratina are all appealing, though...as is San Joaquin de Flores near Alajuela.

* Costa Rica is suffering something close to hyperinflation, and unless certain market forces stabilize, prices will continue to rise.

If I were thinking of picking up and moving, I might cconsider the road less traveled by most: San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, even Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia might be possibilities. Costa Rica is certainly not the only Central/South American country with whores. :idea:

I can see myself finding a place to buy or rent long-term where I can go for extended stays in retirement (in 20 years) and maybe try to rent it out other times, let friends and family stay there, etc. But I can't see myself settling in there. I would end up one of those old beat-up guys who goes to the bar after breakfast and spends the day drinking. I get bored too easily.

I do like pu*sy I really do but can get in many other places than CR. However I would consider living there for 3-6 mos. to really experience it but part of it is the ever increasing cost of living. If I can now live Spain for only a little more I like it as a whole a lot better than CR. Just not as much easy pu*sy there.

CR is nice too since so close to U.S.
