Post subject:  Intermediate Spanish Course

I’ve been through 2 levels of Living Language, and 3 levels of Pimsleur and Learn In Your Car, and have been searching for a good continuation course.

I found a very good intermediate course called Learning Spanish Like Crazy: Nivel Dos. You can buy the downloadable version for $99 or the CD version for $250. I bought the downloadable one and it took me over an hour to download everything. It’s a 30-lesson course, but comes with 15 more bonus lessons, and a 13-lesson video course.

I’ve been through 6 lessons of LSLC, and am convinced this is the best course I’ve ever owned. It’s very good for learning subjunctive mood, passive voice, and progressive and perfect tenses. It’s like Pimsleur in that you can use it without a book. However, it comes with PDF files that have complete text for all the lessons—which is a real plus to me.

I am not working for these people and receive no commission, but I just thought some people would like to know about this course. I know some CRTers are looking for a course to take them beyond Pimsleur 3. Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

DG,

Thanks - after going through Pimsleur Level III three times now and Spanish Plus twice, I've really been seeking a way to get to the next level, and this sounds ideal. The areas you mentioned - subjunctive mode, passive voice, etc. - are stuff that Pimsleur barely touches on, so it's great to know there's another course that covers these well.

DG,

That looks great but I was wondering if you would suggest it to a true beginner who only knows very little Spanish? The way this reads, it sounds like a beginner lesson would be in order before taking a crack at this.

I signed up for a beginner level course that starts on Saturday and thought that this might compliment the school work.

LSLC: Nivel Dos is definitely not for beginners.

I would first try Pimsleur Level 1 & 2 for conversational Spanish.

This free Study Spanish web page is excellent for grammar and verb conjugation. If you work your way through all 104 lessons, you will be at intermediate level.

This free BBC Spanish Steps web page has some interactive slide shows and music that are fun for a change of pace.

This free online dictionary comes in handy too.

A lot of people on this forum seem to only listen to the Pismleur CDs. But I think you really need to supplement that with some text-book type study of grammar and verb conjugation also. It sounds like you are on the right track with your school course.

Good luck! Learning Spanish is fun, and it has many rewards.
