PTWD. Has anyone ever contracted? Post Tica Withdrawl Syndrome can be a very real I think. I have never experienced, but I was chatting with a seasoned vet at the MD party at Hotel M. He stated that he feels very depressed after he leaves CR and it is days before he is better. And the worse part he says that it gets worse after each visit :? . Now I always have something to look forward to when I leave CR and that maybe why I have never gotten. I love my job, it is in health care and getting people better is a natural high for me. But I am putting this topic out there for help for my new friend and me if I ever needed. Now this is serious or I would have put in the smack talk section. Depression is nothing to fool with  Thanks for your help and suggestions 8)

As stated previously......the best "treatment" for this syndrome is to immediately start planning your next trip.

NYG,
This topic gets brought up every once in a while, and your friend is not the 1st, nor the last to go thru the "post CR withdrawals".

A few months back, one of our original and very esteemed members (DonGordo) made a comment about STILL going thru "withdrawals" when he returns from his trips to CR. And he's been going for many, many years!!!!

Personally, I've made about 30 trips over the past 3 years, and I still get a little "down" when I get back to the real world. I've talked to many members about this, and there always seems to be a general (and very consistent) consensus amongst everyone, about how to deal with it.

It seems that the most common cure, as Zebra has already stated...... BOOK YOUR NEXT TRIP. Whether it's a month away, or a year away, it doesn't matter. At the very least, it will give you something to look forward to, and think about. And during the interrim, read the board and follow along with what's happening in CR, from other members.

It's been said before.... mongering is like an addiction, and you're always looking for your next "high". I wonder if they have meetings for this type of thing, similar to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings ?!?!?!?

Good luck, and remember..... "this too shall pass".

MG

The only known treatment, at least for me, is to plan ahead. Normally I already know when my next trip will be to Costa Rica, or some other P4P destination, before my first trip of the year has even started. Plane ticket purchased well in advance, hotel reservations confirmed. I know five months is a long way off before my next trip, but each day that goes by I get closer and closer. I should be thankful that my job keeps me so busy, or I would be a basket case, and tempted to rack up credit card debt with frequent short trips. Something I like to keep in the back of my mind is how many more trips I have before I can retire, when I make that final trip. At the end of this year, if I do two trips per year, I will have a maximum of 26 more trips, one trip a year (months stay) and I will have 13 more trips. If I can retire early, 16 two week trips, or 8 one month trips to go.

This is what was so very different for me I guess. I've been back almost 2 weeks now and I haven't had any withdrawls. Yes, I love the chicas just as much as the next guy but if anything (as corny as this sounds) I miss the great people I hung out with and new friendships I made over the chicas any day.

Bro's before Ho's.......

P.S. Just hook up with a few booty calls back home, you shouldn't be paying for that

Went through withdrawal anxiety for 11 years (1992-2003) before I found the ultimate cure

I moved to San Jose and withdrawal symptoms disappeared

Another "treatment" which I have found to help, is to immediately start collecting $1, $5 and $10 bills in like new condition to use as tips on my next trip. As the pile grows.....it's a reminder that my next trip is not too far off. :)

I returned from CR on Sunday and immediately started suffering from this syndrome while waiting for my baggage at the airport. By the time I arrived home, a 30 minute ride, I was in a deep depression and suffering from delirium tremors. I immediately fired up the computer and booked airfaire for the next trip, then emailed the hotel to get rooms booked. All symptoms immediately subsided.

Almost 2 years ago it was less than 30 days between my 2nd and 3rd trip and 60 days between trip #1 and #2. After 9 trips what I miss now is the culture and friendships I have with a couple of colombian chicas more so than the DR chicas. Nevertheless, a good lay cures many illnesses.

As I have said before; when I am homesick for Costa Rica, I just go to my local supermarcado and read the labels on the pina's (pineapples - for those of you who never leave the gulch).
