I got an email from my ladyfriend in the States, and she wants to hear my voice. How sweet! But I do not want her to know that I am in Costa Rica. I am supposed to be in Washington DC. I am afraid that some code will pop up on her cell phone that indicates I am thousands of miles from DC. I am sure that many of you have dealt with this problem. OK, many of you dropped the ladyfriend! But forget that. She is hot, hot, hot. One guy at Sportmenś today recommended that I buy a phone card. He said he was almost sure that no code would appear on her cell phone. But he said I should check it out with others. So I am checking it out. Help! I need to call her tomorrow. |

Get an ICE phone card, a number from the states will show up as a private or unavailable. If she asks why just say you're using a calling card. |

Sorry I am so stupid, but where do I get the ICE phone card, and how do I use it? Can I use it from the apartment I am renting? AND THANKS MUCH FOR THE QUICK RESPONSE. |

I have never seen a number on any calls recieved from CR. When I have called the ZB phone says Florida I think and the Amon plaza comes up unavailable. |

You can buy a 199 calling card from street kiosks or many stores. Make sure it is a 199 card (International) not a 197 card (National). Yes you can use it from your apartment |

Sorry TG but my info may be incorrect, I was thinking of my ATT card, when using an ICE card it shows up as "private" or "unavailable". The ICE cards are 3k colones and I always get mine at the front desk of the Presidente. |

This is the ICE calling card, but will have a different picture on the front, it always changes. It should say 199 on it. Dialing instructions are on the back. To dial the US, dial 001+area code+phone number. They have different denominations, including 1,000¢, 3,000¢ and 5,000¢. http://mysite.verizon.net/orangeCRT/fil ... e_card.jpg |

I rarely call people out but I have to on this one....None of those methods are absolutely foolproof, I have used both the ICE cards and sometimes they show up private and sometimes they dont, however I dont really care if my friends know Im in CR or California not importnant to me but if it is crucial to you DO NOT listen to the above posts its simply just wrong (some knowledgeable posters above but they missed the mark on this one). Furthermore when my novia calls me with the ICE calling cards that I buy her 50% of the time her number shows up on my cell phone the other 50% its private, in fact I can tell whether shes calling from home or her cell phone, or a San Jose number... useful if Im interesting in busting her on her whereabouts... she hasnt lied yet(Imagine that!). BTW she always uses this ICE card the 199 one that you all are advising this guy to use. I have the definitive answer for you. VOIP VOIP VOIP. It will not show a 506 at all. It will show a bunch of scrambled numbers. This is the only foolproof way. |

ALL CALLS from Costa Rica show up on my caller I.D. on my cell phone, cingular contract, as ANONYMOUS, everytime. I don't know anything about land lines regarding this issue. I've have also recieved phone calls from chicas on the net but don't know what services was in use to make the calls. Check out an internet cafe near you. Now, if you have her number programmed in your phone than it will show up. Toledoguy, Why not tell the "lovely gringa" that you are busy and will call her when you can. What's this with the "I want to hear your voice?" Send her a text message, that's what all the K*ds are doing today. Textg her to get with the program. Who cares if she's hot. YOu in COSTA RICA, so she must not be that HOT and/or worth all the hassle involved in making a simple phone call. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "If I lived each day as if it were my last I would have been dead a long time ago." - Traylor Park |

As long as we are calling out people on this thread VOIP is not foolproof. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ok, let me toss in my dos colones. Most of you guys are correct. The number shows up as private or as unknown. Mostly, when I receive calls from CR and I have received HUNDREDS, it shows up as "private." The only time a phone number has ever appeared is when the phone card is used at a "telefono publica." Ie..public phone that you would find on a street corner or in someplace like the HDR. Use a phone from your hotel or apartment or a cellular and you will have no problem. Now, calling from the Domincan Republic..different story. Phone number ALWAYS shows up. Calling card or not. dapanz1 |

Gotta agree with TP...send her a text saying you'll call when you get a chance. Not worth taking a chance over a simple phone call. If you're really lucky maybe you can find a CRT brother from DC with a cell phone and call from it! ![]() |

I have a Vonage VOIP line here and I have been told that the caller ID shows up as the Boston number that I am assigned. |
