I am no expert but I have done a bit of research on this subject, and at this point, there is not much you can do. Once the process has begun, it's almost impossible to reverse without screwing up future applications.
Everybody who has given me advice on the subject always says not to pay anybody to do the work for you. Yes, the whole process is extensive, and annoying, but there's really nothing a lawyer or immigration expert can do for you that you cannot yourself do.
These guys that charge up to a few thousand dollars do not give you a better chance or quicker approval, in fact, as evidenced by Ruffnutz's case may take longer. Once your fiance has sent the forms to the consulate and takes her medical, it's about a month for the interview, not 6 months. The whole process, from the time the forms are sent to the time the visa is approved shouldn't take longer than 7-8 months, much shorter in many cases since the embassy in CR has a history of quick turnaround on their processing. (Obviously, they haven't yet adapted to the Tico way of life.
