Read about pensiones on calle 6 and eslewhere. I speak Spanish but am not sure what the actual translation of this is... I walked the street and saw lots of bars, but I'm guessing a pension is some kind of hotel? Further complicating things I saw a restaurant called "Chica Dorada" that calls itself a Pension... but I couldn't bring myself to ask the staff for more details, in case I was confused.

Also, I guy I know who used to drive taxis says be really careful when walking around that calle 8 area. He tells me he used to see people, especially tourists, getting mugged there in broad daylight.
