Post subject:  Visiting San Jose

Will be in san Jose in July, staying at the Del Rey. Been there before and love this place. Want to also visit Idem, Zona Blue and New Fantasy.

I am looking for an apartment and a spanish school. I want to move to San Jose and attend a school for 6 to 8 hours a day for about 6 months to learn the language. Anyone have a school; or apartment complex to recommend?

Welcome to the board. Use of the search function will answer your questions. :D

I'm staying at Scotland apartments and noticed a language school just up Central Avenue, about 3 blocks from here. You can find info on Scotland with a search of the board and also their website which a google search should find.
They apartment I'm staying in is the cheapest but they have some much nicer ones just across the street. Management is very helpful and the apartments are clean and bug free if not exactly 'nice'. Hope that helps a bit.

Hahaha that is true about la ardilla, damn squirrel. Phucker climbs those steel bars like a tree, how I don’t know but I ain’t gonna pet the slut. I always had a big bowl of fruit on the bar and the bitch helps herself if you leave the back balcony doors open. I had been keeping them closed and locked when gone because there was a two legged intruder hit another of the apts this January as well.

Funny you should remember this PacoLoco – get a life… :D

My routine when living there and taking classes is walk in the morning to CRLA, a stones throw from Hotel M. Nice ten – fifteen minute walk through mellow neighborhoods Barrios Escalante and Dent. Auto Mercado is right there on the way home, as is Olio Bar y Resturante an awesome place for drinks and eats. Good Memories – a few months of classes over a couple years. I would highly recommend the school. Afternoons and evenings were of course free for other pursuits.

Apartamentos Escocia, Scotland Apartments like Prostoner said, if not exactly nice are in a great location. Barrios Amon, Otoya and the Del Rey are ten to fifteen minutes walk. The high end apartments are $850/months no long term contract, no other bills, all included except laundry and cleaning. Some of the others are a few hundred less a month I’m thinking. I am about ready to move outta San Jose; when I do I’ll give up the number of my favorite. No extra charge for la ardilla :P

The prices they quoted me were $550 (for the one I'm in) up to $750 a month with all bills paid. Also a $100 or $200 deposit. Phone calls are charged at a nominal rate except for calls to cell phones then the rate increases. Washing clothes is a bit of a hassle with only one washer and dryer on premise plus at $4 a load, a bit expensive IMHO. Fast internet, great cable and like everyone else said, a great location. Also charge $15 to have lady clean apartment, change sheets, towels etc.
The Costa Rica Language Academy is the school I saw a few blocks away from here and the Gulch is like others said, 10-15 minute walk. I've even done it as late as 10pm and didn't feel threatened in the least because the walk is all along a VERY busy Central Avenue although I wouldn't recommend anyone else try that...I'm just stupid that way sometimes.
Haven't even seen a squirrel since I arrived so maybe they got him!
All in all, I'd recommend them if you need a place quickly or the location/ammenities meet your needs. Otherwise, I've been told you can find much better deals with a little work. Me, I decided one week and arrived the next so needed something quick, close to the Gulch and a place I could reserve over the internet with English. It has definitly worked out great for me.
Another nice feature I've found is the locked gate. You have to let any girls out with your key...they just can't grab and run!
