Post subject:  Tica travel question

I know that a Tica needs a U.S. visa to enter the United States. She can travel to Mexico and Canada without a visa.

Here's my question: Can a Tica travel from SJ to Canada, with a layover in the US (keeping in mind no US visa)?

T.I.A.

(BTW, if you think going to SJO is expensive, try going anywhere from SJO  )

The long & short of it is NO! The days using the US as a pass through not having an official Visa are over....

SHE CAN NOT simply not leave the airport that information is incorrect.

Here is a great link from Delta: http://www.delta.com/planning_reservati ... /index.jsp

It shows you where when & how and what you need, simply by putting in your passport type, destination and any stopovers you might have.

Haha. Where the hell is Hogtown?

No, she's not coming to work. She's not in that field of work. We're thinking about her coming up to meet in Montreal for a few days in the summer. We're not trying to break the law in any way by having her leave the airport and stay in the US or anything, just pass thru on her way to Canada.

I think the rules are as long as you have an ongoing ticket ALREADY, it should be good to go.

If you have to go all the way through the airport, and and recheck everything, how can they determine you never left the airport? If you were t have an ongoing ticket, and were already in the gated area, your technically in no mans land even though your in the US.

There is alot of bad info in this thread.

Before 9/11 a person did not need a visa merely to change planes in the USA, they called it being in transit.

Now EVERYONE landing in the USA whether just changing planes or not , needs a USA visa. No exceptions.

And most ticas get turned down for a usa VISA.

No airline would let a Tica board the plane to the USA without a visa.

There is absolutely nothing correct in that post.

Prior to 9/11 the U.S. had a program called "Transit Without Visa" (TWOV). You could fly into the U.S. and then catch a plane out of the U.S.. You were confined to a secure area and could not leave that area. If you had to go to another part of the airport to board the flight leaving the U.S. airline personal escorted you.

The only "no mans land" at the airport is the customs hall and it is not a no mans land it is just a technicality that you have not entered the the U.S. until cleared by Immigration officers.

Under current procedures any non citizen coming into a U.S. airport, even if the catch a flight out from that airport in a hour or so, must have a valid U.S. visa. I also believe that a Tica requires a visa from Canadian authorities to enter Canada.

As I stated NO!

Quote:
U.S.A. (US)

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY, U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER
PROTECTION (CBP) TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED BOTH THE US TRANSIT
WITHOUT VISA (TWOV) AND INTERNATIONAL-TO-INTERNATIONAL (ITI)
PROGRAMS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Those intending to transit the U.S.A. must comply with entry
requirements. Please make entries applicable to destination
U.S.A.

All passengers arriving from any country, except those
pre-inspected in Canada, must deplane the aircraft and proceed
directly to either the Federal Inspection Services (FIS) area
for inspection, or to an CBP-approved (Customs and Border
Protection) in-transit/progressive clearance lounge. Those
passengers going to the in-transit/progressive clearance
lounge will go through a CBP inspection.

Until further notice, all in-transit passengers and passengers
on progressive flights will be inspected at the first U.S.
port of arrival. This supersedes previous in-transit passenger
processes. These new procedures also require CBP inspection of
progressive flights (flights clearing passengers at more than
one port) at the first port.

Non-compliance with transit requirements will result in fines
varying between USD 2,000 and USD 3,000 per passenger at
transit point (detention costs at carrier's expense).
Fines for incomplete/inaccurately filled out I-94W Forms are
USD 1,000.- per passenger.

Canadian immigration rules have changed for a couple years now regarding general visitors from CR. They now need a visa for entry . Not easy to get btw.

Before that, no visa needed.

Unfortunately you can not depend on someone suppling the correct information, in a timely enough fashion, to prevent someone from acting on the misinformation you post.

Giving bad info on some things is no big deal but in the past few weeks you have given the wrong answers to some questions that, if the questioner had relied on the answer you posted, would have had some serious repercussions. I refer to the question about importing/exporting pets and the necessity for a visa to transit the United States.

Why post something that you are guessing is the correct information? Post nothing read the replies from those who have the knowledge to post accurate information and store that information for future use.

Trying not to be overly critical but just winging it is, in my opinion, a huge disservice to those seeking information.
