Post subject: | Great Day Trips From San Jose |
We all know that San Jose is where we want to be at night. But I was wondering if anyone knew of any great day trips from San Jose one can take during the day. Last time I went rafting down the Paqaure which was an awsome day trip... But what are some other great day trips you can take from San Jose? |

Poas Volcano. Someone had started a similar thread on this a month or so ago. There were a lot of good ideas on it. |

take public bus rides around. you can hire a little darling for the day to escort you if you like. the basillaca in cartago is always a big hit. and buy them some of the "holy water" sold behing the basillaca. they love it. in fact, bring back half a dozen bottles for the other little darlings. you will be a popular guy just for showing some understanding of their culture. cheaper than buying them red bull or drinks. in fact, I'm waiting to see which one of you low rent dudes is going to exchange a bottle of "holy water" for some action. |

There is a fantastic water fall. About 5 different levels down. There is also a butterfly farm and frog farm at the top. And a place where you can hold sugar water tub's and huming birds will buss up and drink out of your hand. It is out past Herida and on top of a moutian in a rain forrest. "Take a rain coat and wear wool. I thought it was a great day trip. And the basilica in Cartago is a nice trip. About an hour from SJ. Open all the time and yes you can get holy water too. There is a valley past Cartago that is beatifull called Parsdise or Paradiso in Spanish with a man made lake and a water fall feeding it. It is about a half hour past Cartago and a great place to have a picnic when you go in that direction. Then there is Valcano Iruzu. I have never been there but know it is a day trip. I am to old for the 4 wheeling stuff. But I know Sammyboy did it one trip. Of course he had an accident and had to limp around for the rest of his trip. And there are white water rafting trips too. I liked that when I was young allso. But lots of guys have done it. |

Bungee Jumping is a good day trip. Costarica bungee will pick you up at your hotel and drop you off. Price is $65 1 jump $95 for 2 jumps. You get a free pick up and drop off. They also give you a DVD of your jump(s). I had a great time doing this and I watched many people not jump. All in all it only 4 hours total. |

Californicationdude offers a good option for repeat visitors after you have done the typical daytours offered out of San Jose. There are lots of neat towns to visit and have lunch and see a few sites in town within and hour or hour and half of San Jose. Public buses are very cheap and express buses make good time not to mention very reasonable in price. Cartago Zarecero, Sarchi, Turrialbla San Ramon and Grecia(my favorite) come to mind but many outhers |

Joker97 and I when on thr ATV tour in Feb and we had a great time. We were the only riders on the day we went and were flying around the trails. Now we are 50 and 57 years old and in pretty good shape but still had a few aches when we finished but it was worth it. Gary did tell us he goes a lot slower if the riders can`t ride to well or aren`t in the best of shape. I will go again on my next trip.BTW Gary told us that it`s even better in the rainy season. |

Very good option. And, as Redman mentioned. The Valley that is about 30 minutes from Cartago. It is called Orosi Valley. Oddly enough, it is located in Orosi. Nice, quaint typical Tico village. It has several restaurants. One of which is located overlooking a river that runs through the valley. Head out at about 10am, get to Cartago about 10:30 to check out the basilica (Los Angeles Cathedral), then head to Orosi for a nice lunch and then back to SJO. Great day. dapanz1 |

The butterfly, Humming birds and frog farms are all at the 5 level waterfall place. I liked the falls. Only went down two levels. Steps cut out of the mountain next to the falls. Then the K*ds were cold and wet and did not want to go down further. Yes it is high in the mountains. [ cold ] In a rain forrest [ wet ] But they have a buss that goes all the way down to the bottom and then comes past all the stops on the way up. So you do not have to climb back up. I like that part. They have a resturant, gift shop and nice bathrooms at the top allso. I liked it. But they would not let you eat the frogs once you found one hanging from leaves and stuff. I guess you can not have it all. |

Redman's place sounds like the La Paz waterfall and Butterfly Garden near Volcano Poas. Beautiful tropical garden, impressive water fall and lunch with 100's of hummingbirds. |
