Interesting read, Superman. I found one thing a little insane: Quote: Costa Rica hopes to become a top 10 spring break destination by 2008, taking on well established rivals Mexico, Texas and Florida.
Do they really think they can pull that off in TWO YEARS... Those well established 'top ten' places, which I'm sure include South Padre, Cancun, Myrtle Beach, West Palm, Cabo to name a few... NONE of them became what they are overnight... I'm wondering what the CR Tourist department has up its sleeve, or if it's just a severe case of wishful thinking. I hope they pull it off though, that'd be cool. Ruffnutz |

The organization C.R.A.P. which stands for Costa Rican Association of Putas has come out firmly against Spring Break being promoted here in Costa Rica. Theis stance is because these Gringo college K*ds barely have enough money for a room and beer and will never pay "cien". |

So I decided to look at this a little closer, being a little sketic that I have not seen anything "Official" from the CR Tourism Dept. on this subject. I e-mailed the site mentioned Costaricaspringbreak.com rates start at $289, included breakfast,2 Tours (?) Bon Fires at the beach etc. Here is what I received back after an inquire to theirr program Hola; Yes, we have room available for 6 nights in March 20-26 for Spring Break package. Please let me know if you'll be interested. I will need to email you PayPal. Thank you, Maria This from the Bananna Leaf Hotel. Airfare and transportation to/from MA not included. So, I have to agree w/Ruffnutz, good luck trying to capture even a 5% marketshare of the Springbreakers. You do the math, your daughter/son sends you a RFM for springbreak, $289 for hotel, $600 for airfare maybe, if they are flying out of DFW,LA, MIA,ATL etc. good luck if Jr. attends W.Kentucky, Montana St., Iowa State etc.. Now we need $ for Comida, another $25./day because Bubba Jr isn;t gonna eat casado, beverage money, gifts, etc. hmm, So Mucho Gusto,Rainman3 and others you gonna pony up for your daughter/son to enjoy CR to the tune of oh.....$2000. Add in the third world country safety issues (Mom's favorite topic) and I think we have a "not gonna happen" answer. I give these people credit for their marketing skills though. They(Bananna Leaf Hotel) I didn't see what the date of the Press Release was but would think they should have had it out 6 months ago. Now back to basketball and reading about pooooosey. B |

How did I get in on this conversation ?!!??!? I bring my K*ds to CR every July, and we don't go anywhere near SJO during that trip! ![]() My K*ds can jump in the car anytime they want, and drive 5 minutes to a beach here in Florida. They can take my car, and I'll even pony up the gas money! ![]() MG |

MG, ![]() No the point I was trying to make is, will parents spend that kind of $ to send K*ds to CR for Springbreak. This has nothing to do with SJ. As Ruffnutz stated, this is a little insane, to believe they could achieve a Top 10 staus in the SB travel spots. Your answer as well as Rainman's pretty much lends support to my observation. |

I gotcha. But you'd be surprised at how many parents give their K*ds a pocket full of money and a credit card, and tell them to have a good time! ![]() Bullsh*t! Not me. My K*ds will get plenty of money when I'm 6' under. Until then, I'm going to enjoy the fruits of my labor while I still have bonerability. ![]() MG |
