Post subject:  Traveling with a Tica
I am planning on making my second trip to Costa Rica, but this time I'll probably go down solo. I was thinking it might be fun to take a nice Tica with me to the beach for a few days. Does anyone have experience doing this and how is this done. What would I offer to pay... any suggestions would be helpfull thanks

It's not very difficult at all. The best place for this is HDR/BM/KL. They are indy's so they have no prior obligations locally, except for their Babi*s, so they can usually go away with little notice.

#1. Do not just pick a travel companion based only on looks or sex, you will be with her 24/7 so you will need to be compatible out of bed (i.e. don't pick a girl who doesn't speak english at all, if you don't speak spanish at all.)

#2. Spend some time (several short sessions, maybe a longer session too if possible) with potential candidates before asking them to go with you. Negotiate things upfront (i.e. # of times a day).

#3. The fee... this is very subjective. I would ask her for what she expects, then go from there. Because if you say $200/day when she is expecting $100/day, you just screwed yourself out of $100/day. You want to get a ballpark of what she expects, and you don't want to price yourself out of the market or overpay. If she says $400/day and you were thinking $150, you probably shouldn't waste your time.

Personally, I think $150/day is reasonable, but it depends on your budget. Not that the chicas care, but getting there/back costs money, the hotel costs money, and you will feed her the whole time, so you will end up spending a lot more on her than what you hand her at the end of your trip together.

I read on another board a guy said he found a "hot" girl from HDR to go away with him for $35/day. :shock: I would pay to see this hottie. :P This same guys says he pulls chicas out of HDR for $30-40. :roll: :roll: :roll:

Thanks for the advice Juice... Does any one have any experience doing this... Is this fun or can it be a little awkward... To me it seem like it would fun take and nice hottie to beach. But maybe it would be a little wierd too.

I just did this the weekend after Valentines, with a Tica I have been with for almost a year. Flights to and from Playa Tambor on Nature Air, $200 night deluxe bungalow the full meal deal thousand dollar weekend. I actually did it for myself more than for her but she enjoyed most of it. She and I are about as tight as it gets with respect to traveling – used to each others moves etc. Based on that - a few thoughts:

They get board after a (short) while. They are constantly thinking about their other lives/ responsibilities and more. If their phone works where you go - all the better (or worse) they need to be connected. At a lot of the beaches there is not a lot to do besides enjoy the awesome natural aspects. Make sure the companion is into that at least.

Don’t blow a lot of money on accommodations for their sake alone. Most Ticas would be as at home at a back-packer hostel as anywhere else. Go where you are comfortable.

It is Hot/Humid at the beach. I am the original Mr. Mellow but it tried my patience more than once having her in tow. Ahh ya now I remember why I live and travel solo. Just an aspect to be prepared for, bring sunscreen so a bad sunburn doesn’t add stress to anything.

I had a blast, I love the flights, the heat and the ocean. Your companion may or may not which IMHO no amount of talk upfront is going to determine for absolutely sure. All I can say as others have is: know her as well as possible beforehand. If she is relaxed/tranquillo/pura vida when you spend time with her you have a shot at a good time..

I have been overland and flown to several destinations several times. I’m glad I did the drives (for instance Tamarindo to Tambor – off the beaten paths) for the experiences. Now it is a no-brainer I fly every time life is short and the roads for the most part suck…

When I did it, it was with somebody that I had known for a while and I knew she wouldn't be a pain in the ass. Honestly, with somebody you just met, it may be a little awkward at times. If you hit it off, it'll be awesome.

IMHO, this statement sums it up pretty well.

I've done the "weekend with a chica" thing many, many times. If the two of you "click", it can be awesome, but if not, it could be the worst weekend of your life. Try to make sure there is some "chemistry" before you take on a travel companion. Just my dos colones...

G2131, Excellent advice from all contributors. I was very lucky in finding a very nice Nica to travel with awhile ago.
She was/is a DR day worker, kind of shy at first, works 8-10 days a month to make ends meet. We did our thing, then
went out to dinner. Got together the next day and went to the Gold Museum which IMO is a great way to spend a couple
hours. We talked about going to the beach for a few days, she was cool with it, but I was a little suspicious, as I'd
had another girl on another trip say the same time but not show up. With the other girl I was very suspicious so trust
your instincts.

After the museum, back to the room, then she left to go home and make b@bi sitter arrangements for the next day. Seems
like we did enjoy a TLN before the trip, just not sure which trip. She showed up, actually on time the next day and off
we went to Jaco. She's cool, alot of fun to be around, no drama, and has never asked for much. We've been to the beach,
Jaco and Manuel Antonio 3 times now. I read Orange's skepticism about the other guy saying he took a Dr hottie for
$35 a day, seems low to me also. However, I pay her $50 a day and of course take care of all expenses. I've bought
her beach pants and some sandals but she doesn't really ask for much which is incredible in itself and truly refreshing.
She was actually concerned that the beach prices were jacked up because of the tourists. All I'm saying is it can be done
inexpensively. I was very lucky to find someone like her, so unjaded and fun to be with. Take you time, be a gentleman,
and see how things go. Good luck!

I perspnally like having a travel companion when I verture outside of SJ. The tip on making sure there is some chemistry is a good one. I too would have wanted to at least have a long session if not a TLN before securing a chica for take out.

IMHO some of my best times have been away from SJ with a chica. Set the ground rules up front so there so no confusion. Enjoy the ride!!!

All points made were very good, but don't be afraid to pull the plug if it she turns into a pain or a dud as they can be once u get thm there--put her on the bus--Ticas are used to the bus. Either finish your beach stay solo, or fly back and get another.

I did that beach companion thing out of the DR a bunch of times back in the day, and fortunately I eventually found one that continued to work out good. But one of the first times I did that, it didn't work out and I had some stupid sense of loyalty or a deal is a deal or whatever, and it was a miserable couple of days. Phuck that--adios girl--on the phucking bus (and don't feel bad and put them on the plane.) She''ll act pissed off but so what--it's your vacation and your dime.

The only other 'watch outs' I can think of is if u go to a nice hotel where they have telephones in the room--watch out--the hotels charge alot for that service. That happened to me at the Flamingo, like $75 in calls for 3 or 4 days, but I deducted it from her "pay".

And, no matter how great she is, watch your valuables--I made the mistake one time of letting a really sweet, fun, nice one hold my cash while I took one last dip in the ocean before flying back, and didn't notice she peeled some. After your down there a while you keep getting change in paper bills and before you know it, you got a wad. That one was on me for stupidity.
