Admin 1: I notice we are closing in on 10,000 users. While I know not all are paying VIP members (don't you wish??), are you giving out a special prize for the 10,000th user to sign up and can we cheat?? :D Wile Coyote

Wow ID. I'm not sure how you got those statistics, but I had no idea there were that many "inactive" members. That was very surprising to see. Oh well, regardless, I still enjoy this site, and all the members who contribute. Reading and posting has become part of my daily routine. I think I need to get a life !!!

I have to do a security update soon and one of things it will do is show or remove all INACTIVE members. What I mean by inactive members is persons who never confirmed and email address upon sign up.

I'm sure the actual # of board members is probably close to between 8-9K We shall soon see.

Trust me there are MANY MANY MANY members who read every day who have never made post.

When I get accurate board #'s I'll do something special.

So have I. And some of them were pretty cool guys. But I have to ask myself sometimes (and I hope they do as well), if you only lurk and never post anything of your own ideas, opinion or experience, are you really contributing anything useful or of real value here? In effect, aren't you basically invisible as far as the rest of the membership goes?

This may sound harsh, but if someone has not entered
one single post, and they have been a member for
over a year, and aren't a VIP, that account should
be removed.
This is a message board, at least say hi.

Yes, not to belabor the point, but take a couple of zeros off the end of that 10,000 membership count, and you have about the number that really count for anything as far as sustaining this board - paid VIP or not.

I really have no idea how many active members CRT has but I doubt it is 8 or 9 K as Admin 1 thinks.

I think the criteria that is going to be used to purge the board of inactive members:

Quote:
What I mean by inactive members is persons who never confirmed and email address upon sign up.

is overly generous and is not going to give a count that is anymore accurate than the present one.

While I do not necessarily disagree with that sentiment I think it is self defeating for the members who do support CRT. When the Admin approaches a business to get a CRT discount program started his negotiating position is very much enhanced when he can state we have 10,000 potential customers for you Mr. Businessman

298 I hear this greeting from guys I meet all the time......" Hi,my handle is xxxxxx BUT I DON'T POST MUCH". Hey there's a great handle for someone "butidon'tpostmuch" I doubt that Admin will purge the list too much because after a period of just reading the forum,I'm sure a lot of guys get hooked and become paying members.

To my friend ID,I'm sorry to disagree with you, however the number of members with 2 posts is 297 and not 298. There was once a guy who posted under two different handles. (twice each time) hahaha How the hell do you come up with these facts? I know you aren't that bored with that much time on your hands living the life you live here.

Greetings. I'm one of those in the 76.65% category who has never posted before. I've been to CR twice, once in '05 and once in '06. But I didn't join CRT until after my last trip when one of my "fishing" buddies discovered this site and we joined shortly after.

Part of the reason I hadn't posted early on was because of my unfamiliarity with the site. Having seen some of the legends of CRT scolding newbies for asking questions before researching the site, I didn't want to start off on the wrong foot so I just read and reviewed everything. It became a part of my nightly routine to just open and read the latest updates and entries. To be honest, I've been a member for a little while now but so many members have posted questions and received answers on topics I was thinking of asking about that I haven't had anything extra to ask or add! I have PMed Admin 1 once and Skynrd a couple of times recently, though.

I'm excited to say that I'll be visiting in May with a few of my fishing buddies to enjoy the best of what CR has to offer. A couple of my buddies now have the fever and visit a few times a year, but due to family and work obligations, I can only make an annual visit. So, seeing how the membership is encouraging participation, I'll be trying to contribute my dos colones in the near future. I also look forward to meeting the legends of CRT and sharing a drink with them. Hopefully, you won't mind if my drink's a Diet Coke because I can't drink alcohol! I'll explain this when we meet.

As a first timer, if there's anything you think I should know or do differently, let me know. Thanks!

Greetings and welcome to the board GG11219.

Now that you have jumped into the water hopefully you will continue to post. Yes, I plead guilty to being one who tends to be impatient with the repetitive questions that have been answered countless times before. My apologies to anyone who that has kept from making an initial post and I will attempt to refrain from chastising those who do so in the future. Remember however posting does not have to be limited to requests for information. There are many threads that give a person the opportunity to contribute their opinion on a subject that is being debated.

This thread has brought forth one new poster so it has been successful. Hopefully a few more will come forward and we can say it was a "slam dunk" success.

Again GG, welcome aboard.

Thank you Irish! My past trips introduced me to the joys of mongering and the counsel of my fishing buddies, along with my natural tendency to be a cheapskate (mom calls it "thrifty") kept me from overspending. In fact, only a couple of chicas received cien from me and they were truly GFEs. CRT has reinforced what my buddies taught me and I've learned even more since joining. Hopefully I'll be able to share some experiences for others to get something out of it, too.
