Has anybody had any lasik or other eye surgery in Costa Rica?
I know that the service is available but I would prefer to talk to some satisfied customers before making any decisions.

I know from my occupation that it is one of the top 10 malpractice claims in the US---with irreversible damage a common element. I saw a recent study that showed, like common sense would dictate, that those with most experience using the devices commonly used are geting best results.

Hair transplants, dental, nip & tucks, maybe OK in CR. My eyes--I'd find the most experienced optho I could find in the US doing the procedure and then check him out thru local court house clerk's office (cross check his name and clinic/office name by "defendant"--almost all clerk's offices are computerized now and can do it) and see what's been going on, if anything.

I had it done last November with Dr. Perdomo. He has zero personality but he did the job right and I have absolutey no complications.

I'm not qualified to offer any expertise but my personal opinion says that when it comes to eyes and vision I would have to bite the bullet and get it done in the U.S. It's a refined skill and an easy one for error. There is much debate on Doctors and their track record even here.

I looked into Lasik a few years ago as I wanted to get away from using contacts.

The results from my reseach was disquietening.

The best doctors can only claim a 90% success rate and that may involve a second treatment. It's also interesting to note that most operations are done one eye at a time, just in case something goes wrong.

Back to that 90% success rate - what does that mean? It means that after the operation you will have 20/40 or better. But you have to read the the warnings. While you get corrected vision, your eyesight may be damaged in other ways. Watch out for ghost images, halo's, stars etc. A simple search on google will help you find out how risky this can be despite the claims. IE http://lasikdisaster.com
