at one time i was thinking of relocating and living in san jose area but seems lately it can take four minutes to load a page from internet. i noticed it is faster when no one is online, for example, new years eve around 11:30pm i went online using a direct cable link from a local hotel and it was very fast, but during the day when others are using-it is slow to the point that i couldn't do business there. i can't have clients wait for 3-4minutes for me to load a page and give them inventory info from the company i represent. your thoughts? i met a woman who uses voip phone and she has about 9-10 calls that drop during the day; but she has a service that for ten dollars per call it will pick up the dropped call instantly so no connection lost. your thoughts on voip/ dropped calls also? i don't think costa rica technology is ready for me yet; it seems pretty common knowledge among ticos that the internet is slow; maybe in a couple years it will be more of a possiblity to work efficiently with CR technology. |

Internet speed can vary greatly in CR from not only day to day but from minute to minute. I use it for non business so no problem but if your livelihood depends on a speedy connection you might be destitute very quickly. I use Vonage (VOIP) and have never had a dropped call or any problems with it except for when the net is down (infrequent) and then I simply wait until it comes back up to make my call. Not a very good situation if the call is time important for business. Have noticed no real change in the past 12 months. |

I work 8-10 hours a day online when I am in CR and it's not much different from being in my office in the US. I've worked from the hotel Castillo and the Sportsman's Lodge with no problems. I did stay at an apartment one trip and the connection there was horrible. From my experience I would say the problem was more with the connection wherever you were staying than with communications in CR as a whole. |

I have DSL in my apartment. Speed is normally good but there are sometimes extended periods when service is virtually zero. If it happens on a Sunday I suspect they are in no hurry to get anything back up and running, since it's their day off, man! |
