ok guys I thought about writting this post and decided NOT to because I knew I would be Ripped apart by the other guys on here for admitting this. Then I said "what the Fu*k" some dude out there must have something that has bugged them for years like me and might want to do something about it but can not afford it in the US. So at the risk of being laughed at by my fellow CRT's here goes: We are heading over in 24 hrs for 2 weeks and while we are there my wife wanted to have a little lipo done on her thighs because she feels it is a hard area to trim down and she feels uncomfortable in short skirts..so anyway we found a place called thr Rosenstock Center in SJ and the price 1800.00USD...Here in the US her Dr. quoted 4300.00USD Now for ME...I started thinking at this point...mmmm I have always had this little fat pouch under my chin (double chin look)...so I e-mail Rosenstock center....$ 800.00 USD...No more double chin. We both go in at 8:00am on the 23rd and back at our room at ZB by 1:00pm...They say no pain, no stiches because the incisions are VERY small they require none. and we will feel tired that afternoon but will be full of energy by the Next day except for feeling like we had a "workout". So we Arrive at ZB on the 17th spend 6 days going WILD do the surgery ..take it easy for 2 days..go wild for the last 4 days ..come back to Florida like new people. Skynyrd |

Skynard, Thanks for the post. I'm not sure about all of that work done outside of the US. I work in an emergency department and once had this patient who went down to mexico for breast implants, after a few days following the surgery she comes to the er with a bad infection due to her surgery. So, not only did she require her implants to be removed, but she was also stuck with the bill of her hospital stay. I'm sure there's horror stories associated with any surgery performed anywhere, but I would be very leary of such establishments. Was there a screening process that you and your wife used to find this place? I'm planning a first time trip to CR at the end of March. I can't wait! Best, Cohiba |

dude, no way. especially for the liposuction on the thighs. you need followup inspections, possible smothing treatments, and plenty of rest. forget it. go down for the lipo or go down to play. both? no way. serious buddy. |

CAdude may have a point. I posted a link to Rosenstock in the hair transplant thread and there was a little discussion about them. Surprised there's not more CRT feedback on the place but perhaps mongers aren't all that concerned with vanity, after all we can just use dollars instead. ![]() |

Skynyrd, There is nothing wrong with doing something that makes you feel and look better. However...with that said, I know a couple of people who had lipo and they where out of commission for a little while. Hate to see you go down there and you cannot do anything or worse something goes wrong. I agree with Californicationdude you would need to do follow up visits to make sure everything is healing properly. Be careful. |

I cant believe the responses this post has generated not only on the public side but I recived several private messages from some members who HAD THINGS DONE IN SJO that praised it... Thanks EVERYONE that showed concern for us, We did check out Rosenstock Center ALOT before we decided and they are one of the TOP known in Central America...Both the Doctors there are American Board Certified and you return for a followup after 5 days to make sure theres no infection ect....The playtime will be the 6 days BEFORE surgery and the week after we will rest up (unless the last couple days we are UP to it:) Thanks for the Possitive words and Concern guys. I have had some pretty extensive dental work including surgery down here, in CR. At first it scared crap out of me but after the second visit or so I settled in to it and feel perfectly comfortable and much improved. I would not hesitate to use pre-researched facilities. Good as it gets and I have had No problems. That said the variant is using doctors in another country. Depending on your connection to whatever country you might have little recourse for resolution of troubles. It can be a crap shoot whatever procedures you do and where ever you do it. I believe: do your homework and resign yourself to you are taking some sorta chance whatever you decide to do. Have a backup plan to deal with less than satisfactory results. |

GR, Go ahead and schedule it. Mine went great last trip and now the chicas no longer refer to me as the 3 legged gringo and run from the room in terror. Rainman3 ______________ "the only gambling I do in the gulch is when I go down south" |

Good info there, but have heard of many procedures going wrong. I guess if you're money strapped it's an avenue to follow. I would do an extensive background check on the Dr. beforehand. |

Trust me when I say that many American cosmetic surgeons are only marginally talented and do not do a good job on the more difficult procedures. They have their fair share of infections, as well. One should go to a surgeon who has a demonstrable and consistent talent in the procedure you seek. If I were to seek plastic surgery, I would find several people who have had that procedure done by that surgeon. The personnel at the clinic where the surgeon operates are a great source of info, although for most people, an unrealistic alternative. I would insist on board certification from the American Society of Plastic and Aesthetic surgeons. They have fabulous training and generally have good hands. Additionally, although you might find a cheaper surgeon outside the US, keep in mind that a portion of the fee the surgeon charges constitutes overhead for facilities that are state of the art, sanitary and inspected. Finally, US plastic surgeons pay a huge premium for malpractice insurance. That insurance helps to grease the skids of the US tort system, which, even though we bitch about it, helps to prevent negligence and gives an individual recourse if a surgery is botched. I am not an expert in Costa Rican law, but I think you might be phucked if the surgeon screws up. |

Skynard, I am totally interested to hear how it goes. I email the same clinic for lipo as well. $1600 and no more gut. But, I never had any illusions of being able to do the surgery and play. And, I can not usually afford that time required to finish the proceedure. Maybe soon. Keep us posted. dapanz1 |

Personally I think all this concern over medical treatments in a latin country is over emphized. Most of the Doctors I know of studied in the States. Sure there are problems on occasion, but, look at how many problems you read about in the states. My ex was a cosmetic skin specialist in Colombia and worked with 2 Plastic surgens there. They had more diplomas from the US and Europe than any doctor I have ever seen in the states. She had a boob job, reduction and lift, with no problems. I have had extensive dental work done in Colombis including a root canal with no problems. And all the work cost me $425- a lot less than a root canal in the states. |

I was at Clinica Biblica yesterday. My knee has been bothering me for 3 months, I was concerned over cost and waiting time for a San Jose doctor ??? at the urging of my Novia I agreed to go. No problem with appointment, 24 hours, not much of a wait and not too expensive. The doctor spoke decent English. The problem was tendinitis. 22,000 c for cortisone shot and doctor. 24,000 c for X rays, 10,000 c for pharmacy. So for about $ 100 and 1 1/2 hour I was patched up. If there is something troubling you, don't hesitate just because you are in CR. Fiedler |
