With all the talk about the service, or lack of, at the Blue Marlin,
as well as the potential practice of being shortchanged, should we,
as a group, move our CRT happy hour location to the Sportsmens Lodge?

Actually, for many of us this has been a 'fait accompli' for quite some time already. Many days I actually have a hard time breaking away from Sportsmen's at all. But maybe it's time to formalize it - I vote yes.

Service schmervice, I'm there for chicas and would get bored looking at the 2-3 at SL, besides they're all in love with GR. :P Ok if you can get all the HDR chicas to go along too.
Seems many guys have already done so haven't they- BM Happy hr. is nothing like it used to be.

As far as the happy hours go, as a newbie on my first and second trip, I would go there daily looking for the CRT happy hour gathering to find none. The formal CRT happy hour seems to be a myth, or maybe like Paco said a thing of the past.

They should be since he pays their rent, $60 at a time. :P

Yeap - you bet they love me, because unlike 90% of the guys who just sit on their asses in there drinking and schmoozing and ignoring them, I actually PHUCK them sometimes... :)

the BM is best for happy hour.

I would sometimes check out the SL, the swing by the NY Bar and end up at the BM.

it's the biggest game in town. and not the only place to be on your guard as far as change returned.

and from there you can, and should, easily visit other locations.

that's my 2 cents, others may rightfully differ.

I think the SL is only convenient to those staying there or at the Castillo. The HDR is smack dab in the middle of the gulch and much more centrally located as well as having far more "eye candy".

There is still confusion over exactly were in the HDR/BM CRTHH is being held. It appears to have shifted to the HDR lobby near the casino but there are still posts directing people to the tables by the window in the BM

My personal preference is the old location in the BM but others prefer the HDR lobby. Either place I think is a better choice than the SL.

Seems like the Blue Marlin is still the choice,
based on early results.
Kind of hard to beat all that eye candy at the BM. :P
By the way, during my recent visit, happy hour
was held at the lobby bar, near the casino, as mentioned above.
Either area is fine with me.
I was just thinking, with all the talk about poor service and
people being shortchanged, as well as newbies sometimes
having a hard time finding CRT members at the BM, that a more central
location would be nice. Kind of hard not to be noticed
at the Sportsmens Lodge. Then people could easily
migrate to other venues, i.e. dinner, etc. with a wingman
or two in tow.

yes, the SL is unique and is truly a place were I always feel welcome.

the BM/Del Rey and the Key Largo are more public, larger locations.

I think on all my trips to CR, I've dropped by the SL for something to eat/drink and share some chat with the guests or Bill and the staff every day.

And, I've just thought, where did the truly old timers meet for happy our back in the 'good ol days'?

I know there is a mid day crowd that meets at the New York bar, resident expatriats, but I don't think any, or few, are CRT members.

Where did our old timer members meet years ago? Before there was CRT?

I think Blue Marlin is ground central and always will be. I don't often even go to Sportmans but drop in and out of the Blue Marlin often. To me Sportsmans is off the beaten path unless you are staying there or in the area. So I suggest the Blue Marlin.rbc100

For what it is,I enjoy hanging at the SL on occasion, and watching sporting events. However for me,the DR is the primary place to hang in between conjugal visits. Some time ago, some of us started sitting at the lobby bar tables because the smoke and noise level was better. Other guys started to follow and a minor change transpired. The bottom line is that I have taken ONE chica home from the SL and MANY from the DR. I am there for the comraderie with the guys, but primarily for the vast array of chicas to choose from for my evening's entertainment. To answer another question posed: the meeting place for CRT and it's predesessor CRS started at the tables on the Monkey Bar side of the DR.

Yes there was key largo in the 70,s. But there were others, the Park Hotel, when it was "The" place to hang in the early 80,s. There were others also. nashville south, new nashville south, yesterdays, reses, of course Tiny,s and then along came the del rey. And with that, like old cowboys the rest just faded away. being an old fart, I miss the days when a gringo was a rarity in Costa Rica .
