I am planning a trip which will overlap easter. Anyone know if Good Friday affects HDR in any way?

Never been there during Easter, but seeing how it is the biggest holy day in the Catholic religion, I'd assume that HDR will be a ghost town. Another assumption is that there will be no alcohol served or sold in CR, but I am only assuming this. But stay tuned, Irish Drifter will probably refute my assumptions soon.

BTW, are you related to the original TicaFan?

There will be no alcohol sold from Holy Thursday April 5th thru Easter Sunday April 8, 2007, at least in San Jose.

I believe it is a local law.

There are still chicas around looking for a gringos but less of them as many head home to family.

Idem is closed or was closed the last time I went there during Semana Santa.
The Blue Marlin was open but not selling alcohol. You can bring your own.

In Mexico, Central and South America you are wasting your time on flights and hotels around Easter and Christmas time.
Those are family biggies.
They may be pros, but they don't leave out family.

and the place was desolate.....My only salvation was a local dude said buy me beer, and we'll grab a taxi, and go knocking on doors....It took 5 stops, with the chicas stepping out the front door till I said "vamos"

Not Recommended!

OMG....this may be the first post in a long time where everyone is in agreement. Semana Santa is the greatest week of the year here in CR. It's true that the SALE of liquor is prohibited during these days, however Big John,in his benevolence, gives it away as a way of saying thanks to his loyal customers for the rest of the year. Did I forget to mention that all the food is free too?The DR is so full of chicas that there are waiting lists to just get in. The most desirable of these thousands of chicas are charging $20-25 for TLN because of the competition. lol..... there, now someone disagreed. Damn, even Orange and ID are doing kissy-face on this thread. I think I'm going to throw up. Feliz Ano Nuevo

I booked my first trip a few years ago on Easter Weekend, not knowing at the time that it was supposed to be one of the worst times of the year. I was bummed after finding out but it was too late.

I arrived on Saturday night before Easter Sunday and Blue Marlin was packed! They were indeed serving alcohol that night. Ended up having a great night and left for Jaco on Easter morning.

So if you arrive on Good Friday, just hang in there until Saturday. Easter Sunday I wouldn't know as I mentioned I was in Jaco. The Beatle Bar was packed that evening also! Guess I lucked out.
