We all know prostitution is legal and I was wondering what negative impact it may have on a chica as far as looking for a real job one day, medical and hospitalization, Ch*ld care and applying for a passport/visa, among other things. The reason for my question comes from talking to a chica the other day and she mentioned to me something about not wanting to let her ex know she was working at HDR because he could have the Ch*ld taken away from her if he were to inform The Department of Ch*ldren and Family Services. I was suprised by this, especially when prostitution is legal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "i'm in love with a whore and i don't even know it." - Traylor Park |

Department of Ch*ldren and Family's in CR? I'm sorry, but that is some funny shit. I think she was BS you. You ever see all these K*ds running around outside the DR begging for money? I'll bet 75% are runaways. The cops could care less. She can forget about the passport, one of the questions she needs to answer is, Employment. Real Employment. I've already been there with one. Unless you plan to marry, forget it. |

Actually, I've often wondered about this issue of Ch*ldren'S SERVICES, or lack thereof. Is there such a thing? I have run into a particular gringo from Florida on several occasions who volunteers his time to do painting, maintenance, etc. at some sort of orphanage or Ch*ldren's home which I believe he said was sponsored by a church. Based on what I've seen in San Jose, and what I can imagine, it seems there would be a great need for it. Many of us know Sandy, the gringa we see in the gulch handing out information about the homeless Ch*ldren, and soliciting donations for them. She seems genuine, and dedicated to the cause. I can only hope she is. Zebra |

Okay, here is some nice unsubstantiated information on the subject. I know of two working girls who told me of custody problems due to their profession. Neither one was working me for money or anything else as far as I know. One had problems with her ex-husband who never paid her support yet wanted custody of the bambinos because he didn't like the way SHE was supporting HIS K*ds. Another lost custody to her mother who objected to her way of supporting the bambinos. I have no reason to doubt either story. I have no evidence to back the stories up, either. Draw whatever conclusions you like. |

It is very possible both girls were being honest and not seeking money but rather just using a convenient "shoulder to cry on". The problem is that those who are seeking to scam gringos for some money soon pick up on these real life situations and try and use them for financial leverage I had one chica tell me how her mother was trying to get custody of her daughter because she was working as a prostitute. Naturally she needed a hundred dollars so she could see a lawyer in the morning to prevent this from happening. Fortunately I did not buy the story and a few months later met her sister who related how she, her sister, sisters daughter and mother were all sharing a house. The mother took care of her granddaughter while the two sisters plied their trade at the BM. |

Just to follow up slightly... The one that lost custody to her mother had actually kidnapped back her son and moved to Nicaragua for a few years, and has now moved back to SJ. Since the incident was in the distant past, I don't see how she would use this. By the way, other than letting me buy her a drink or two or some bocas, she never asks me for money. #2 was also in the past, about 2 years ago. She has asked me for money for a few things, one time she had just given birth and came to see me looking like she was about to die and I gave her money for some food and medicine. I realize that mongers need to be very wary of requests for money, but my point was about the government interfering in lives of prostitutes, saying that to my knowledge it DOES happen. I am not saying that any girl who tells you this is happening to her is telling the truth and not scamming you. |

The chica I spoke to was in no way telling me this as a RFM. She just was telling about a situation that she was in herself. I just thought it was interesting that while prostitution is legal that some form of action can be taken against putas with bebes. Also found it interesting that I have met many chicas from who move to San Jose and tell family back home they have a real job to support themselves and their bebes and the fathers and family have no idea they work. I wonder how many Ticos believe the chicas have real jobs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "i'm in love with a whore and i don't even know it." - Traylor Park |

I have met this lady possibly Sandy in front of the DR before soliciting money for Ch*ldren. I still have the pamplet somewhere. After I told her about so many scams going on, She invited me for a day somewhere in the mountains to see for myself. However, I did not and would not go. I would only donate for K*ds in our country not abroad. She gave a lecture about prostitution and said, I'm only contributing to the problem. Sounds like a bunch of BS to me. I already volunteer for the Florida Sheriff Youth Ranch's and the Salvation Army. |

I can tell you beyound a shadow of a doubt there is the equivolent in Costa Rica, and has been in existence for several decades. Yes, they do operate based upon report of neglect and abuse, so this is a legit fear, if her SO was vindictive. In truth, they would do nothing if the Ch*ldren are cared for.. |
