I know I could do a search but....I would rather just ask.

Anyone sent anything lately to CR by mail? How long does it take a letter or package? Any problems with the tax issue on packages?

I have double checked the funky address with a couple locals and the say it is good.....

For the first try I am only going to send copies of some of the pictures I took on my last trip.....

I sent a small package on the 20th of Nov. Still hasn't shown up. With the messed up address i sent it to, i honestly doubt it ever gets there  .

For those of you who have never sent anything to a local home address, it isn't exactly 123 main st.

USPS Global Priority envelope to Costa Rica $5/$6 depending on where you live in US. Arrives between 1 and 2 months.

DHL Interternational Envelope $65 arrives in 3 days.

I have a friend who works at DHL so my packages cost me $7.50 for 3 day delivery.

FedEx Internationa Envelope $65 arrives in 3 days.

You can also track all your packages on the net.

This is what I found to work best when shipping to Costa Rica... include at the bottom of the mailing address the phone number of the person recieving the package, that way they get a call and can give better directions to the driver.

Everything I've ever mailed out was delivered.

Also make sure not to send anything of value because whoever you ship the package to will have to pay taxes. My friend who works for DHL shipped a package to Venenzuela for a friend and customs charged the person at the other end an insane amount of money for something that would have cost less in Venenzuela. They did not know this befoehand.

Keep it simple, letter and pics. If you send CD just write that it's a hard disc copy of documents you are sending.

Last year, I shipped a box with small gifts to a tica (non-sexual) pal of mine. Massage oils, candy, a nice scarf, inexpensive earrings and a copy of the Oxford Spanish English dictionary on CD ROM.

It took five weeks to get there. Recipient was not held liable for taxes of any kind, but I know that if the package is valued over $300.00 and you don't have the Customs forms filled out correctly, you're screwed.

BTW, Global Priority mail for the 4 pound box came in just under $15.00. Not bad..

Ok...I am going to send some photos tomorrow.....I'll save the birthday gift and hand deliver it. I'll post a follow-up on my experience.

It really is funny how many guys clain they don't send money. If you have a favorite (semi pro, ex pro, private stash) I know you are sending money.

No problem for me. I get what I want when I want. It works for me....YMMV

Kyran, if any of these guys are sending money, it isn't in a box destined for BFE. It is Western Union. These chicas can't wait for USPS  .

Sooo.... what you are saying, by logical deduction, is that you have a favorite and are sending her money. If that happens to be the case I can tell you what your puta favorita thinks of you and the others that she is taking money from...... your a "sucker". Really.

I have had this conversation many times with working amigas. They see you and others as "foolish suckers" who they will bleed dry if you let them. With one working amiga of mine the "Western Union thing" is a running joke. We laugh about it frequently.

DON'T send money dude. There is NO love. It's all make-believe. Wake up and smell the coffee.

I can say from personal experience I don't trust having anything sent here with regular mail. Forget addresses, I've been about 50% having things sent to a PO box. I used UPS recently and got the package a little over the three days, but my mom sent it from a very small town. If sending a package do not put a value on it. Most of the time anything with a value with have to go through customs and they will want the tax on the listed amounts. And please, keep on sending money. I have a good laugh with the chicas over this too. Once in a while they buy me a drink.

1-2 months? You're stoned. No way. I've sent many USPS Global priorities and it is a week max. Always received. As for addresses, some are more easily found than others in CR. That is just the way it is.

I sent a Global Priority Mail envelope in late November. It is now March 6th. I don't think it will get there.

I have a feeling it had something to do with the address.

As of today I have send three cards/letters and a set of photos. All arrived quickly (with in a week) using the US Postal Serivce. Letter and cards are only .85 to send......

My "friend" did have to go to the post office to pick them up....there is no daily door to door delivery.

I haven't tried to send anything of value. I just keep those items and bring them with me on my trips.

Thanks for the imput on the money situation. I normally don't have problems with women here in the USA or in CR. Its been 1 1/2 years for me with the same chica. YMMV....but its been a good situation for me.

This happened a couple weeks ago -

Shithooks incredibly got into my neighbors apartment (basically third story window) and cleaned him out, including some medicine he couldn't replace in CR (never heard of that). Luckily he had passport money etc in a safe place, everything would have been fine minus laptop etc...

He had enough medicine for a few days and had replacement Fed-Ex'd in plenty of time but - Customs grabed it and wouldn't release it for nada.

Had to go home, no choice, bummer. Sad true story.
