I heard it will be December 9 but I have not seen anything official. I would think that date is correct as I remember it is held on the second Saturday of December.

What is this festival? I'll be in SJO during that period and would like to know if it is something I want to be or not be a part of. Thanks

Lighted street parade with lots of floats all the way through downtown. Draws a huge crowd from all over the Central Valley area. Kind of a weekend Chistmas party with people throwing confetti on the streets all weekend long. Fun to be there for if you never have seen it.rbc100

Date is confirmed REPEAT NOT THE 9TH!

SATURDAY DECEMBER 16TH!

In my opinion one of the best times to be in SJO.... Live music in front of the rail on Avenida Central on the pedestrian walkway, simply a great time to be there and this close to XMAS this year will be even better...

Make your Hotel reservations soon, it fills up fast!

I thought La Luz was the second week of December.

The confusion arose because Dec 9 is the second Saturday of the month. The Saturday following the second full week in December is the 16.

Gentlemen:
I've been told by two different CR business owners who I trust very much that the date is the 16th this year.

If anyone has any information to the contrary that is CONCRETE please provide, but I have to go with what has been confirmed two times to me.

I happened to be in town during the festival last December. Didn't plan it like that, found out about it after I arrived. Quite an experience, with everyone throwing confetti at you. Best part though was the fireworks that went off one night just after me and my favorita...um...finished! :D

By a stroke of luck (I think) I'll be in SJ at that time. With all the crowds etc. I imagine that pickpockets will be active. Any activities to avoid during the festivities?

Enjoy the Festival de Luz but be very aware of pickpockets. With the crowd it is impossible not to bumped and you can not tell if it is accidental or a pickpocket. DO NOT carry anything in your pockets except for a few thousand colones and some change for minor purchases. Get a money belt or one of those neck pouches to carry valuables.

That precaution being taken enjoy yourself. It is a great time to be in San Jose.
