Post subject:  Unsubstantiated rumor/ Beetle Bar

This morning my colombiana called, since I have not emailed her this week, and in the course of the conversation, she said that word on the street among the putas is that Jacque at the BB has sold/ or in process, and the new owner is not going to have chicas. This seems kinda farfetched to me, but I guess anything is possible. I have not been able to get hold of any of my local friends down there yet--wondering if anyone else has heard this rumor??

What else would you do there? That is in the shittiest part of Jaco. Nobody even goes that far north for anything other than chicas. Look at the businesses in that area. Nothing thriving. I've been in SJ for a week, but headed back to Jaco tomorrow. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Of course, this is an open forum, and anyone is entitled to comment in any thread, however, it would be nice to hear from somebody that might actually be able to shed some light on the question of the rumor that was passed along. Then again, there is no rule against making uninformed assumptions of people that you don't know based on nationality. Pura vida

I was playing poker last night with some friends and one told me he heard it directly from Bridget that it was sold and they would be having alast night party on November 14th. Sounded like the new owner will continue operating but that part is speculation. Hopefully, they'll bulldoze and start all over.

The word in the papers is the government is going to start cracking down hard on prostitution in Jaco. Maybe this is the start of the change???

how does the government have anything to do with this if it was BOUGHT by someone. Prostitution is legal in CR, it doesnt really matter if people in Jaco like it or not.

Oh no...I'm sure many people will miss the fine, spotless, well-maintained banos in the Beatle Bar :P I don't know which establishment has the worst banos, the Beatle Bar or the Disco La Central. Is the Disco La Central still open?

La Central closed over a year ago. I didn't know it for a long time because I didn't go there too much.

And to give you a little insight into the workings of Jaco. If the influential Ticos and families around town ever decide they don't want it here, believe me, it will disappear. They did away with it more or less in Quepos. It probably won't but the local families have a lot of power here.

I'm not a lawyer but here is my take on the "legality" of prostitution in Costa Rica.

It's not a case so much of prostitution being "legal" it's more a case of there being no laws AGAINST it. That would imply that it is tolerated up to a point.

As Thirdworld said, if the powers that be want to clean up Jaco they can. All you have to do is harass the girls enough and word will get around that they are not wanted there. If they start giving the business owners a hard time they will be gone in a heartbeat.
No girls+no guys = no prostitution.

I saw the same thing happen in Boca Chica in the Dominican Republic. Between the cops "arresting" the girls (many had to provide sexual favors to get released) and just general harassment, things have never been the same.

Keep in mind these girls have no voice and very few rights. It's as simple as that.

Damn colombiana, told the truth again. Altho she's been telling me the truth for 1 1/2 years, I just know that it's only a matter of time before she reverts to lying,..... like the rest of the people from her country of origin.
Lo siento,yo no podría refrenarme
