| Post subject: | Tropical Storm/Hurricane Debby |
I understand that there is a tropical storm named Debby off the atlantic coast of Africa. I am not concerned that it will hit Costa Rica, but that it might impact flights out of the US later in the week. Do we have any meteorologists out there who might want to sound in on this? |

When it is just off the African continent there is no way to tell with any probability where it will go yet. You'll probably have to give it a day or two to even have an idea where it might go. It is going west/ northwest right now. Shouldn't impact flights anytime in the next 6-7 days in any case. |

I agree with TW. Last year Hurricane Wilma forced me to stay 2 extra days in CR. Of course my return flight was through Miami and that airport was shut down for the better part of 2 days. So, even though it's way off near Africa, not to early to think about it. That is one reason that during this time of year I'm thinking of only booking through Atlanta, Dallas or Guatemala City. dapanz1 |

Not a meteorologist so can only quote from what the Miami Herald reported the meteorologists are saying. They do not expect, at this time, that the storm will reach the United States. Stay tuned for possible OOOPPPSS we goofed

From The Weather Channel: Wednesday at 1:45 PM EDT. After looking rather flabby earlier today, Tropical Storm Debby is buffing up. Winds are now estimated at 50 mph and some slow further strengthening is likely as the storm churns toward the WNW away from the Cape Verde Islands. Debby could reach minimal hurricane intensity in three of four days. But the storm is forecast to head into the vast expanse of the central Atlantic and likely will never threaten the U. S. Elsewhere in the Atlantic, a tropical wave about 400 miles east of the Windward Islands is being monitored for possible further development as it pushes westward at about 20 mph. The disturbance has become better organized the past several hours, but is very far south and may have to fight off the influence of the South American landmass if it is to strengthen. http://www.weather.com/newscenter/tropi ... enter_news |
