Post subject: | Spanish scholars, some help needed: "pipe" |
Guys, I've been corresponding with a beautiful Colombiana with whom I spent several days (en Colombia), a dream come true. In her emails, she addresses me with the name "mi pipe". Now that's a new word for me en espanol, and I'm curious what it means. It seems like a word of affection, but maybe there's a specfic meaning to it. Some ideas I've had: - spanish baby talk, like the equivalent of "my foo-foo" or "my woo-woo" - "you cheap, ugly gringo motherf*cker - "mi cajero automatico organico del futuro" (my future organic ATM machine) - my pipe dream (doubt it) - the only one who lays the pipe for me (doubt it too) Any ideas on this curious word? |

Dude, the only thing that makes any bite of sense wasif she was calling you "Mi Papi"which basically means daddie. |

I thought this might be some Colombiana slang for Papi like how we say daddy instead of father or dad. Did she spell this out in an email or is it your impression of what she is saying? |

Pipe is another one of those cheesy little diminutive words that really doesn't mean anything. It's just a term of affection. It's usually used in reference to a baby brother or a young son. I've also heard Pipito used quite a bit. |

Thanks guys, she did write it in an email 'hola pipe' and 'mi pipe'. Sounded like something affectionate. Glad it wasn't mi pepe, pupu or pipi. The learning adventure never stops for this intermediate speaker (or butcher) of espanol. |
