I have come across quite a few posts concerning going to CR to get some dentistry done. I don't know anything about the standard of care in CR but I'm a practicing dentist in the states and would be glad to answer any general questions if you have any.

I have obtained invaluable information on this site and if I can give back to other members in any small way I will try.

Thanks Puff, I have one. Everytime I get a checkup/cleaning in CR they also give me a flouride treatment- the paste in trays they stick in your mouth for about 4 minutes. I'd never had it done or seen it before getting my dental work done in CR.
Is this even necessary, and isn't too much flouride bad for you?

Listen I've been thinking, is it true that down in Mexico they have this big

building set up with a large tank of latex, and the workers are all picked

according to hand size. Each individual walks up to the tank,

PocoLoco, FL. treatments are common in Ch*ldren up to about 14 years of age and usually from 30 sec. to 1 min. No, Fl. is not a communist plot but it can make you sick if you swallow too much or it can darken your teeth as a very young Ch*ld (probably not a problem here).

In general as an adult if you are cavity prone, have decay on your roots, or have gum recession with sensitive teeth, it is a good thing with very little downside.

CALIFORNIA DUDE, yes I've heard the same thing and you only have to worry it they get way too excited before the latex is removed.

PacoLoco...I used to get the flouride treatment every visit until I realized it wasn't necessary. It just added another $5 to $10 to my bill. Certainly if someone was not diligent regarding their daily oral hygiene, it would be beneficial, otherwise it's not really needed. I recommend the following cocktail at least twice a day...either Listerine or Crest Pro-Health rinse, combined with hydrogen peroxide (3% solution). Also, Act flouride rinse is very good.

I do have a question for the good doctor...

I've used Listerine for over forty years, but since the new Crest Pro-Health
rinse came on the market about a year ago, I've debated about whether
to switch. Listerine contains around 21% alcohol, while the Crest rinse is
alcohol free (and has a more pleasant taste). I've always thought that a little alcohol is good for cleansing. In your opinion, which is better? I suppose it may be a matter of personal taste/preference.
