I met a young, pretty and slim social worker one night in a bar in the gulch. We went to my apartment, did the usual and planned to see each other again. We saw each other a fair amount for a few weeks, and she called herself my 'novia' for a while, but soon enough I realized it wasn't going to work and one night I steered her to another gringo who was eyeing her like a starving man would eye a bucket of KFC. She stopped calling me and I stopped calling her. I ran into the two of them a week or so later and after a friendly wave, we went our separate ways. Perhaps two weeks later I ran into her at the bar where we met. She came over, we chatted and had a couple of drinks and she told me that she was going to move to the States in three months and get married to him. Unlike every other time we had had a drink together, she actually bought a drink of her own! I wished her well and she left by herself (for a change). Two days later I got a call from her. She wanted to come over and 'hang out' with me, she was bored, whatever. She came over and nature took it's course. Nature or whatever. She spent a few hours and hit me up for money when she left, which didn't surprise me all that much. She told me that her 'novio' had sent her money but that she spent it all and was afraid to ask him for more (so soon). He also paid for English lessons for her, but she was skipping classes because they didn't have enough patience with her. Anyway, I pity her novio but nothing I do one way or another will help the poor sap. The girl is a partier with three bambini at home. The guy, in his 40s, was (imho) overcome with this 'babe' he wouldn't get to touch back home. So he decides that he wants this hottie forever and goes back home planning their future together. I don't think she playing him, at least consciously. She really plans to marry him (as far as she can plan at all) and I think she cares for him as much as she could anybody. If they somehow keep it together long enough to actually get married, I give the marriage a half life of about four months. I would also put the odds of it falling apart before that at about five to one in favor of it falling apart before she sets foot on US soil. I hope the guy takes his time but he seems in a hurry to do the deed before he has a chance to think clearly. I suppose it could last for a while. I remember watching 'Days of Wine and Roses' one time. They lasted a while. |

I know how this guys feels, because I love lating girls. I wish this guy well with this chica, but as I have heard on here and learned by dating them... 'if a chica's lips are moving... SHE IS LIEING.' |

For those of you who are as old as I am,perhaps you remember the old rock and roll song that started "Met him on a Monday...Kissed him on a Tuesday...etc. etc." Some of these "love starved" Gringos move faster with their "novias" than an Indy 500 race. My favorite was a chica that I used to enjoy some time ago. She met a Gringo from Fla. on a Monday and actually married him on Friday. She then waited for him to set up her visa while she stayed here. The fact that she wanted to see me a few more times for the same $50 must have been so that she could stay in practice for when she saw him again. As far as I know they are still together in Fla. Who are we mortals to judge? |

OH!, VB you have stumbled on a truth. Which provokes the question. If they are married and screwing for money and practice are they still Puta's? |

So sad how love-starved some guys are, they'll fall for any story just to keep the hope alive a 20 year old chica really wants them. Hopefully the chica will take him down for a big $$ score and teach him a lesson. Don't forget these Western Union romeos take girls out of circulation from us, so I have no pity for them, only disgust. |

I can see how it could happen. I was smitten with one on my last trip. I stay in touch with her via email. Ive accepted the fact that i am not good at long term relationships so im going to have as many short term sexual flings as possible. I went to Jaco in Dec. 04 and my life has changed. Im dont get winter depression anymore. I feel more relaxed, more patient with people. Ive accepted myself. I know that I can have sex with as many beautiful latinas as possible, its just a plane ticket and a grand away. When I see young hotties around hear I think to myself, in CR Id pay ochenta for 2 hours with her. The pressure seems to be off for me and Im meeting more women and getting a free lay every now and then with my new attitude. I feel sorry for the guys that fall hard and end up hurt. Loneliness can make the strongest vulnerable. |

Some truth in these postings. It is hard to say the least. I think it probably only works if you are down there at least half the time, if not then you are relying on trust, which is like krptonite to a working girl, espcially in the Del Rey. REMEMBER THEY MAKE THEIR LIVING ON LIES LIES LIES LIES, play along and take it from a fool like me , whom got burned by one, but pulled his head out of his ass, and realized that the whole GF experience in CR is a lie.... Play Hard but Play smart |

Vegas Bob, you nailed it !, Love starved, I admit I am, I am sure many members here are, admit it ot not. The important thing as my CRT comrades remind me is to not get emotional or LOVE struck over one Chica, If that happens you are toast . Fiedler |

They only thing I judge is VB used better judgement & got the best value out of the deal without all the problems ![]() ![]() |

I live here in a tico barrio. Theres Two ticas that have "boyfriends" back in the states they come here twice a year and they stay home clean cook for their tico boyfrend here. They pawn him off as their brother!!! They are sent I think $700.00 per month and go to bar Castros and family outings. They met their gringo boyfriend at Bar Castros and basically a semi-pro. When their boyfrind comes the Tico goes away for the next 4 weeks. I have been living here since 1995 and full time this past 2 yrs. They just cannot (ticas) stay true when its only twice a year. Wise up guys. Oh and theses are no babes a little fat w/ Ch*ldren.. thaks for westrn union!! |

If a guy takes a gold-digger out of circulation, good for him. If you laid all the hustlers in Costa Rica end to end, you'd have a normal Friday night in the gulch. |
