The US really isn't playng badly. They hit the post on one great chance.Unlike CR against Germany, the US is controling the ball in Chech territory pretty well. |

Damn, that was alot worse then I thought it was going to be. I still think the US will advance if they can get their act together. |

With the Czecs ranked #2 in Europe coming into this tournament, this should be no shock. Of course we all wanted a better showing...but in the world level of soccer playing...USA is still a novice team. Hope they can show better against Italy...but they will be tough as well. |

I watched the second half in an Argentine restaurant somewhere south of the Aventura Mall nearer to Miami. Sorry to say this guys, but the US was pathetic. They were totally outclassed by the Czech team the whole of the second half. I don't know how they could even have qualified. While the Czech's acted as a co-ordinated football team, the US seemed to be K*ds new to the game. Their attempts to get into the opponents half was uninspired, they do not understand the passing game and allowed the Czech's to build up a strong defense while they ambled up the field. All too many times, the player with the ball would walk it up to the goal when there was a team-mate in a better position who could have moved the ball further in. My boss made a good point, the Czech's were ruled offside 8 time during the game, the US was never hit by that. But it shows that the Czech's were pushing as hard as they could. Their defense was poor and they failed to cover the attackers. I later read a news article where the US goalie complained about US players getting no respect from the rest of the world. While a Dutch or Brazilian player would be an attractive signing to a European team, the US was getting the short stick. Well today showed that there is a good reason why. ![]() |

Livescience.com has the explanation for both the ticos' and gringos' whuppings. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Quote: In the opening match of soccer's World Cup Friday, German midfielder Torsten Frings scored an amazing goal from 40 yards out. The ball started off straight and then tailed sharply to the right in the last 10 yards or so. It was an unstoppable shot, but with a different ball it might have been a simple save.
A scientist has explained why a new ball being used in this year's World Cup is frustrating goalies. The new Adidas Teamgeist football, as it is called, has 14 panels instead of the 26 or 32 that traditionally create the hexagonal pattern. Fewer panels means fewer seams, which will make the ball behave more like a baseball, says Ken Bray, a sports scientist at the University of Bath in the UK. Complex whirls of air cause a spinning ball to drift toward the side that's spinning away from the ball's direction of movement. A ball that's not spinning can bounce around unpredictably. Pitchers rely on this physics when throwing knuckleballs. A good knuckleball is crazy because the ball rotates lazily in the air and the seams disrupt the air flow around the ball at certain points on the surface, Bray said. "With a very low spin rate, which occasionally happens in football, the panel pattern can have a big influence on the trajectory of the ball and make it more unpredictable for a goalkeeper," Bray said last week. Bray suggests one way to watch for the effect on TV. "Watch the slow motion replays to spot the rare occasions where the ball produces little or no rotation and where goalkeepers will frantically attempt to keep up with the ball’s chaotic flight path," he said. |

Is no surprise the US lost against the Czech Republic, the second rated national team in the world right behind Brazil, but 0-3 is a bit too much, next two matches will be difficult as well, against Italy and Ghana, so far the best performance in the cup was given by Italy. Like any other sport anything can happen. GO USA |
