Visa Gift Cards

Has anyone used a Visa gift card in CR? I was thinking about bring one instead of cash. I am wondering if it can be used at local ATM’s and merchants. I know there are two versions and U.S. only and an international card.

This may be a great option for not carrying cash or using ones personal CC on the trip. Remember not all people want charges or cash withdrawals appearing on their monthly statements.

I also heard you get a better exchange rate from the ATM machines.
