I am not a meterologist but from what I can see from the last 3 or 4 days, the rainy season has begun:
It's been hot and humid in the mornings and we've had rain with lightning and thunder in the afternoons.
It's 8:15 am and I can allready see the clouds forming over the mountians to the east of SJ.
I guess this is good news for the MP's and casinos. Never got caught in the rain in either establishment.

Here's an article, on topic, from today's A.M. Costa Rica:

Rainy season kicks off with heavy downpours in valley
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

Officials are blaming a buildup of dry season trash for the flooding that hit areas of San José Tuesday.

The trash blocked storm drains, mainly in La Carpio and Urbanization Óscar Felipe in Pavas and in Mozotal de Goicoechea, San Antonio de Escazú and in Aguas Calientes de Cartago, according to the Comisión Nacional de Prevención de Riesgos y Atención de Emergencias.

The commision said that the rains signaled the start of the rainy season. Some 70.3 milimeters of rain fell in San José from 7 a.m. Monday. Most of it was Monday night and Tuesday afternoon. That's 2.77 inches.

Some 1.4 inches fell in Liberia, and the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional said that the central and south Pacific also received a dose of heavy rain.
Only 9.2 milimeters or 36 hundreds of an inch fell in Limón, according to the institute.

The weather institute said the cause of the rain was a low pressure area and that conditions should get better by Thursday.

Damage was light. Some homes were flooded in Los Guidos de Desamparados. In Dulce Nombre de Tres Ríos residents were watching the river. In La Carpio one house fell upon another, and the Fuerza Pública had to respond.

The commission urged residents to clear drains and storm sewers near their homes and to pack emergency rations if they live in an area in jeopardy.

Rains struck the Limón area hard just four years ago even as President Abel Pacheco was receiving the sash of his office. The storm this year is nowhere as heavy.

I like heavy down pours! We have rain in NorCal, but it is whimpy rain and never any thunder and lightning.

But no rain in NorCal until around October so we are opposite CR.

Let it rain.....that makes for good white water rafting. I also like ridng the ATV's when things are a little muddy. Things were starting to look dull and brown around SJ. The rain will make things green. Also, not as many gringos will be in town so your green may go a little further. Maybe the "Cien" request will go down. (haha)

Unfortunately the monger tourist has no concern over the weather as most of their activities are far removed from the threat of lack of sunshine and rain. Therefore the monger related businesses really do not see a downturn in business and the rates remain constant.

Business the cater to eco-tourists and alike lower their rates during the green season and perhaps the P4P scene in the beach resorts may see a fall off but not in San Jose.

Have you ever heard the saying it doesn't rain on a monger course :? No that's golf course. Oh well two of my favorite things to do. Some time I'm going to get around to combining the two.
