So, I have been emailing the Hotel Castillo to find a spot for my buddy, and possibly myself, when he comes down. I email twice and then, having gotten no response, follow the advice of my CRT brothers and call down to the hotel. I speak to the women at the desk and am told that there are no vacancies for the last week of May. dejected and disconsolate, I hang up the phone and check into some other options. (FYI the master suite at the Prez is booked, but Jr suites are avail. SL is booked solid)

Going through everything again I decide that persistence is a virtue and the woman I talked to at the castillo is necessarily an idiot because she did not give me what I wanted. LOL. I decide to call down and try again, at least for one room. I egt another woman and she tells me there's nothing available, not even 1 room. I ask to speak to Darren. he gets on the line and also tells me that there's nothing available, but I try to wheedle some time. He says waitaminute....

So, there's two rooms being held with an unconfirmed reservation. Guess who's holding them? Me. based on the emails I previously sent he blocked off the two rooms for me, but couldn't reply to me via computer because his was on the fritz. I had been competing against myself the whole time. I hate those stupid, gringo tourist bastards like me that stop me from booking the space I would enjoy so much more than somebody like me ever could. huh?
D-oh!

sometimes I amaze myself by just getting through the day.

So, is there any advantage to rooms upstairs vs down? better rooms in the bunch. I gather from the set up that they aren't all identical. Any suggestions or comments?

Interesting story K_by_me. Just goes to show that persistence pays off and that you always have to keep in mind that you are dealing with a third world operation. Computer problems, lost emails, power failures, etc. all part of the fun.

Enjoy your stay.

I never book in advance which may sound like a bad idea but I always seem to come up with a room some place right in the gulch. I don't need a place for anything other than p4p since I have a safety net with friends houses to stay at if I don't find something. I don't like taking Chicas to these friends houses (they steal shit  ) & they don't like or trust that idea either. I always think I might get stranded doing this but not so far. The worst thing that happened was last time I had to change hotels every few days but really not that big of deal since I travel light.

K,

The rear section of the Castillo is fairly new, about 3 years old. The rooms on the bottom floor have 2 double beds and kitchenette facilities. The rooms on the second floor are smaller with no kitchenette facilities. Either is good. I've stayed in both. First floor, of course, no stairs. Second floor has a beautiful view of the city, especially at night.

The front part of the hotel, or the original part, has some very nice rooms also. I think you'd be OK anywhere in the front or rear section of the hotel.
