It rained in SJ from 11:30am until 2:30pm yesterday. Limon reported in excess of 8 inches of rain in the morning alone which obviously caused problems there. The rain in Limon was more than the average for the month of March. I hope this doesn't mark an early end to the High Season.

Here's the write-up about yesterday's rain in A.M. Costa Rica:

Caribbean storm dumps month's worth of water on Limón
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

In San José, it rained from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. marking an early end to the dry season.

The Caribbean coast got so much rain Wednesday morning that emergency officials ordered an alert and took steps to reinforce their operations there.

Some 8.22 inches (208.8 mms) fell in Limón Wednesday morning. That was on top of the 4.1 inches (104.1 mms) measured in the previous 24 hours.

In all, Limón got as much rain Wednesday as it usually gets in the entire month of March, according to the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional. The downpour drove the Río Bananito out of its banks and caused damage and blocked roads at Matina.

Cieneguita, Bananito and a main bridge over the Río Barbilla were flooded, according to The Comisión Nacional de Prevención de Riesgos y Atención de Emergencias, which said it set up a command center and begain moving food and two boats into the area.

Weather experts said the problem was caused by a Caribbean storm that will hang around until Friday. More rain is anticipated today in the northern Caribbean coast and the northern zone.
