Gay-Lesbian Conference Announced For April
Nine organizations that defend the rights of homosexuals, transvestites and bi-sexuals, announced yesterday the first gay-lesbian conference to be held in Costa Rica at La Catalina de Barva de Heredia at the end of April.
More than 150 people are expected to participate.
Abelardo Araya, president of the Movimiento Diversidad, said that intention of the conference is to analyze the cultural, social and economic aspects focusing on sexual orientation. "It will be a time to exchange ideas and experiences", said Araya.
The conference that will be held on April 28 - 30, will also focus on human rights, the impact of AIDS in Costa Rica and a proposal for a gay-lesbian community on the next Legislative agenda.
Araya said that a full press release will be made following the conference and the proposals will be sent to president-elect Oscar Arias and members of the Legislative Assembly.
