Last year I took to Costa Rica a palm size telephone answering machine. I made a point to call it to the attention of the TSB inspectors. It went thru their scanners without a problem.
I later talked to one of the inspectors who told me that the scanners are programmed to pick up certain electronic circuitry and devices containing that circuitry would be confiscated.
I think you might be taking a risk of losing the device since I can't think of a way you could have it tested. Possibly by taking it to your nearest airport and see what happens when they scan it.
