It pays to be in the know.

I received a fancy color brochure from my university in Atlanta offering an alumni tour of a week's cruise on the coast of Costa Rica with tours to the nature sites for "only" $3000 each person, double occupancy, excluding airfare. More if you want a cabin on the upper deck. That is $6000 plus airfare, or more, excluding alcohol and tips.
They stop at about five sites such as parks, and do a day tour with a guide. A small ship is used to do the tour which is hosted by Lindblad Expeditions.

I believe that I could find and pay a female companion, hire a fine automobile and driver/guide for a week, and stay in big first class hotels, see the same sites for half what this alumni tour is charging.

After the cruise they drive to San Jose where a flight to MIAMI is taken. You then transfer to a plane to Atlanta.
Are they even aware that there are two non-stop daily flights to Atlanta from San Jose?

They're probably picking up a bunch of UM fans in Miami to go with y'all!

Oops, my bad.

I didn't even know Emory had a mascot. Do they have a sports program?

For about $300 per day, you pay for a private cruiser out of Los Suenos and cruise the entire Pacific coast with CHICAS. This is a total rip-off.
