Is there an ATM or bank of some sorts between where you get off the plane and before you exit the airport so I can exchange some $$ to pay for my taxi etc. |

Yep, there is an airport exchange booth. After you exit immigration and baggage claim and all that good stuff youll go through some doors, and eventually be in a small hallway with 2-3 booths in the left hand corner. One will be airport taxi, another will be money exchange and I dont know what else is there. Its RIGHT before you exit the airport. I personally wouldnt exchange alot there, because you can get better rates at the casinos or hotels. |

The booths near the baggage carousels are about 40+ colonies less per dollar than in a local casino, hotel, bank. Just get enuf for for the night (which may include chica $), then do a bigger exchange in town. |

DO NOT...REPEAT...DO NOT exchange money any place in the airport except at the bank on the departure level. The money exchange booth in the arrival area is a total rip off. If you do not have time to use the bank or they are closed when you arrive no problem. Both the duty free and the airport taxi deal in dollars. You can wait until you get to your hotel before exchanging any money |

Just get enuf for for the night (which may include chica $), then do a bigger exchange in town. It's even more than 40. As I was waiting for my flight after SB weekend, I walked over to see the rates... 429/$ when the rates at the casinos were 498-500/$. You're losing 70 colones per dollar. The taxi stand takes dollars, either $12 or $13 depending on which hotel you're going to. I don't exchange any money until I get to Colonial or Del Rey casino, both paid at/close to 500 during SB weekend. |

He asked if there was a place in the airport, so I told him. I think everyone knows that the airport ones charge more, but thats to be expected Id think. Its kinda like telling people not to eat at the airport because the food costs more. In all honesty did you think it was going to cost to the same, or did you think they were going to give you some kind of deal? |

If you want to change money at airport go out past taxi stand across access road toward parking lot and go up the stairs and enter the departure area turn right once inside the main building and in the corner there is a bank right next to where you pay the departure tax. Not sure how late it stays open but maybe til 10 PM or something like that. Someone else may be able to confirm closing time. I usually wait until in town as the Colonial Casino next to Del Rey pays about bank rates and much less hassle.rbc100 |

You gave the guy bad advice so just move on. Making a mistake is cool trying to dance your way around it is BS just admit the mistake and move on. |

Hows it a mistake? If I said their was nowheres to exchange money that would be a mistake. Telling the guy he shouldnt change money there is bad advice. Hes on vacation, why should he worry about being ripped 2$? |

Jmac, paying 10% commision or about that to exchange your money is a huge mistake. Anyone aware of the current currency rate can look at the sign posted by the exchage booth on the way put of the airport and see it is a huge ripoff. I always make myself aware when I travel to a new desitnination as to the current exchange rate so I can avoid being ripped off. I recall it being posted about 430 col. when the going rate was about 490.That would be closer to 12 percent than 10. Lets see, if my math is correct that would be close to $2.25 to change a $20 bill. rbc100 |

I know but I think he just wanted to get some money for a cab ( even though they take USD ), so in that case you would hardly see the effect. That is all I was saying. As you can see I said I wouldnt change any large amount of money there. |

There is a real ATM on the upper level. Exit the arrivals area, cross the street, turn left and take the Elevator up one level. When the doors open you will be looking at an ATM booth in front of you. |
