I voted no, I just think the arguments will overflow into the other forums and not on purpose just naturally will without knowing it.

I propose no! What's next sections on Race and Religion so that we can be equal opportunity offenders?! :D Just as the website is entitled CostaRicaTicas.com, it seems to me the closer we keep it to the focus on chicas in Costa Rica and information about Costa Rica the better off we all will be. It's unclear that CRT has benefitted from the discussions on Colombia, Thailand, Dominica, etc. They have been informative, but may also confuse some newbies.

While I certainly enjoy small discussions and debates on politics, race and religion, I prefer them in person so that if someone is offended or when misunderstandingd arise, they can be addressed before it gets out of hand. Since I can't do as many chicas in a day as some of you younger guys, the discussions I have with guys at the bar on these topics is one of the extra attractions of Costa Rica. So far, I have been delighted to find many of the guys that I talk with have similar concerns and have taken the time to educate themselves on the issues. Even when we disagree on the solution, we seem to agree on the prioritization of the problems. I've had several guys who recall our earlier discussion months later when we see each other and want to pick up where we left off. It's like old friends with a continuing discussion/debate. :)

Since this Poll/Question was started over 2 years ago, and thus far, no Political Forum, I guess it speaks for itself.

I personally would not be in favor of such a forum, mainly b/c of the back and forth bickering it would be sure to cause - also, even when I have read political forums/message boards, I have never - never - seen a time when someone experiences a sudden conversion to the opposite point of view.

Lennydo's suggestion/practice is much the better way to handle the issue of banned topics. Face-to-face or at least on another Website devoted to such. The central problem with those issues is (as somebody pointed out), they cannot be contained. It's not a PC thing, it's bitter-knowledge-gained thing. You can't be a wee bit pregnant either. This kinda came up on a recent GenPop Forum here ("Banned Topics").

I could care less if CRT had one, I blog political opinions on other blogs here in the states and enjoy the "fights" I get into with people who oppose my views. I also post political issues on my facebook page and people who see that can debate me or agree with me.

I believe CRT should focus on what's important to us here in Costa Rica, we certainly should discuss political issues evolving in Costa Rica and how it affects us, both visitors and ex-pats, and if the US invokes new laws and taxes on ex pats we should be able to discuss them, but general politics concerning issues in the USA can best be reserved for those blogs and facebook and twitter etc, in the USA. I prefer CRT focus on what we do in Costa Rica and what's important to us here.

I would be concerned that guys here who get along well and have great camaraderie and help each other out would be resentful of one another if they discovered their political thinking was dramatically different than theirs, as it is now, we all agree on mongering and have established a good "brotherhood" and political discussions may screw it up...

Bro Netgems said it well. Politics is such a volatile subject and so easily captured by the most strident voices, that it's best avoided on a hobby board. I'm aligned with one in a very different realm, that has been captured by a sect/segment. Righty, Lefty, Radical Middle--it doesn't matter--what matters is one voice having control, as one inevitably will.
NO!
All that said, if you want a Progressive opinion on issues, PM me. JazzboCR

No one really wins in a political discussion. It only fuels discontent and does not change the other person's mind. If you want to lose a good friend of a different ideology.....start arguing about politics. I know, have lost a couple of longtime friends because of that.

My best friend that recently died was very liberal. Yea we had ups and downs but both of us soon realized that we had to leave politics out of discussions. We kept our communication to the things that were more relevant to our personal lives. Every time politics would creep in we had to stop the conversation....we both knew that it would harm or destroy our friendship.

Actually, the only time one can have an effect on national politics is when you are in a voting booth...arguing politics doesn't do a damn thing but inflame the atmosphere.

On this venue, one can somewhat identify a member's ideology. There is no plus to having a political forum. It's difficult enough to get along on a forum.

My 2 cents worth

This is the problem with US politics. We are all human beings. Why can't we compromise? Why must it be my way, your way or the highway??? Nobody is asking you to change your point of view. Just understand the other person's point of view!

Big "Amen!" to that. Unfortunately there are increasing numbers of folk and not just politicos who benefit and profit from turmoil. All politics is local but shouldn't be in this locale--this from a guy who'll get all political on you in a heartbeat.
