Without doubting you, just curious. If he goes to Havana via say CR, and they are still doing the immigration stamp on a slip of paper thing and not on one of your US passport pages, just to be kept with you as I understand was what they were doing, and he returns to CR or Canada, how would our State Dept know he was there?

DGD:

The USA Embassy in San Jose monitors (kinda; the data is all there, but the person(s) doing the work are both lazy and involved with other projects which address unwiseness up around the border with Nicaragua) the manifests into and out of Havana as well as the travel agency bookings to same. You gotta show and have copied your passport at these travel agencies to get that slip of paper.

What will be the most fun, however, is when FAR gets bored and just wants to mess with him what with making an effort to screw up the wonderful gene pool and all.

I am just sayin.. :!:

Consider that statement in light of this: a pal will bail you out; a friend will be sitting next to you saying, "Hell of a time, eh Bro?" I don't see the overwhelmingly self-aggrandizing ("the world is me"--solipsism writ huge) CubaDave meeting even minimal standards for what I understand a wingy to be--understanding, acceptance, even approval.
My choice in all cases would be Bro Scuba1. If you think I'm over-thinking the issue, get in a tight spot and ask yourself--"Who's gonna be there for me?" I once had a USMC company come to my aid when I was jailed ( no arms, just presence): the 1ST Sgt. had a chat with the Sherriff and, natch, had a top-notch bail agent in tow. Got our NIS folks interested who soon presented the malefactor to The Man (damn shame he was another Marine, but there you go). Who do you trust?

I did see the previous post, Jazz, and frankly, I chose to ignore it, b/c the poster is likely:

A Troll - sorry but the term fits b/c the purpose of the post was to stir up trouble (even though I honestly could care less) with zero value to the membership**** We have had a lot of them lately - some I think are funny - others - same person for all I know - not so much
A sock puppet
A person who is an unpaid member, with very few posts, so the "T" word comes to mind

Also, not every post needs to be answered - but frankly, yours did - thanks very much for the kind words - very much appreciated! :)

**** Oh, don't get me wrong - not every post has to be a classic, and its very common for threads to get off track - but I posted what I thought was a well reasoned response to the New Times article about Cubadave - the thread was not who you would or would not want as a wingman - when I read the post, I thought, well, someone being a jerk, and if you feed the trolls, it only gives them what they want - but I could not let Jazz's nice post pass without comment :) :) :)

YES- I think this thread should be moved, deleted, or locked. This is the very thing that is wrong with this site. If I say that many of us in the silent majority are alienated by the pi**ing contest over who owns what and who's who, the sharks will smell blood. I am a nobody here and we are many. I come here to gain info and to live through others postings while I live my boring life and earn my daily bread.
Many of you superstars have lost touch with reality here. Why would many of us care how many posts you have or how much leche you dropped on your last trip. What do I care how many handles you have? I DO care about your positive and negative reports, they help the rest of us to avoid problems and maximize their vacations. The reports of members at a hotel or MP or bar are important, not who owns it or promotes same.
I never went to CR, LOS, Mexico, Europe, or anywhere else to play golf or go fishing. I never had to lie about where I was or what I did and feel fortunate that my aging late 50's a*s can have a better time through this site. Against better judgement I read this topic instead of avoiding it like the plague and even worse- I have the nerve to post this reply. Trust me, we the quiet bunch do not care how big your pen*s is or how many handles you got. WE DO care about your trip or favorite spots while there. In the few years that I have been a member posts seem to be at the lowest level yet including my own. Wonder why???
Can't we all just get along?

Warren, if any of the comments/statements in your post are directed at me, you are truly delusional, as all I did was respond to Jazz' post.

You will never see any post by me bragging about the size of any body part, sexual escapades, post count - where do you get what you posted?????? Bitch to the administrators if you don't like the number of posts revealed - personally, I could care less - I look at the content of the post, vs the amount to see if a guy knows his stuff, and makes sense.

You want to do something - start posting, start contributing to the site; you are a VIP member, so that's a good start.

If you don't have the experience, ask some questions - not every thread is about things that require experience - become more involved on the site or don't complain about it - everyone (with the exception of trolls, and sock puppets) has something to contribute.

I singled out no one and never would. Please do not dissect my words and hear what I was saying if you will. I expected flak but my two cents are anteed up. As per my previous post- this is why many do not wish to be dealt any cards here

+100 you hit the nail on the head Warren. Your post rings true for about 95% of the members of this board who want the info not the ego building know it all bs that a few of the posters demonstrate on a regular basis. However, having annoying postwhore's is not unique to this board as it can be found on almost any type of message board. For some inexplicable reason there are always a few people, on any internet community, who opinions of themselves are so low that they need the ego boost of a message board even though the people they are building there ego to are unknown to them. Go Figure

Bro Scuba!--I don't think those posts were directed personally, just expressing a feeling shared by many of the solid Bros and some Sisters who don't post but who seek info and on-the-ground impressions. Any interpersonal grievances Posted by us "frequents" is just noise, just flak; amusing or whatever to the active participants, but annoying and worse, off-putting (no danger of serious flaming but why bother?). The phrase "inchoate indifference" covers this admirably. A problem with any organization with so many different populations and agendas--those who can easily communicate, do so; those that can't/ won't get marginalized (they feel that their concerns aren't listened to and believe they have no hope of starting/ steering discussions in anything like a meaningful way w/o said discussion getting hijacked). Or am I overthinking yet again? How about that situation in Syria anyway?

I suspect you are correct :) :) :)

I just think I've invested the time and have the experience - as well as have the written skills - to postulate an opinion based on what I know, what I've experienced - I honestly could care less about post count (even though he is sadly no longer with us, no one is likely to catch up the late Irish Drifter  ) - nor is it ego building.....I have strong opinions, based on having experience and a brain - sorry if I seem hyper sensitive today.

I think the spate of posts of late critical of the board - as well as veiled critizism of some posters - should start posting themselves.

I think that I can catch up with ID's post count of 11372, altho, nowhere near the level of his quality.
According to my math and my current # of posts per year, I will catch up with him in just over 110 years--making me 174 years old.
