1 st of all anyone who writes in all CAPS is screaming and being rude. You do not make points by writing in all caps. I say this is simply far fetched and does not pass the smell test.

IMHO, you guys are being unreasonably skeptical. So some parts of his story sound a little screwy, so what. You show me any story that ever makes complete sense. Every one of his discrepancies or seemingly illogical components have possible reasonable explanations. I'll just address the complaints made in this thread since my last post.

@CLN - "This guy is saying he got totally busted, and he's on ANOTHER TRIP???" Seems unlikely but certainly possible. The guy was stupid to stay at the HDR in the first place and use a credit card account that his wife could see. And he's stupid enough to think he fooled her with his explanation. So why couldn't he be stupid enough to think he can pull off another trip? And, as for his wife, I doubt she fully believed him, if at all. So you might ask why would she simply LET HIM go on another trip. The answer is also quite simple. She's already written him off and is just giving him more rope to hang himself with. He tells her that it wasn't him with all those chicas, honest honey. Well it wouldn't surprise me if her agent is lurking around behind him on this trip not only getting pictures of the chicas but snapping photos of him with them. Good luck to this guy.

@Caldude - I don't know about selling off cc# info (which would blatantly illegal), but it wouldn't at all surprise me if they're sharing/selling such things as e-mail addresses with marketing firms (such as those pitching ED drugs on-line).

@Broadway - see explanation given to CLN above who raised the same complaint.

@Mongeral - you cited a personal experience at the SL where the front desk covered for you with your wife, but we weren't talking about the SL, were we? We've been talking about the HDR?

@PacoLoco & BkTuna - what can I say, you guys get it.

@LIK and ID - I can really address your complaints on the last page because you didn't really specify exactly what they were.

@Hank Daman - and you really think that a high ranking ICE official is going to admit to you how lacking in security and full of corruption his little piece of the CR bureaucracy really is?

@ID - okay now you're getting more specific.

First, you questioned the story changing from it being someone in the CIA getting the pictures to someone with connection to CR immigration. Well, if you really want to get technical, this guy may not have ever even said it was the CIA. That was VB's retelling to us what he remembered this guy saying to him. VB might have misheard that part, misunderstood it, or just plain remembered it wrong (and probably did). When someone tells you a long drawn out story (probably in a noisy bar), that sort of thing could easily happen. Once you throw out that this guy ever said the CIA, then all the questions and theories raised about that CIA part of the story become moot.

The more relevant question regarding how his wife got the photos becomes could she have gotten it through a connection at the CR Immigration. ID and Hank think no, but I'm not so sure. ID reasons it this way: "The funny part is that while I doubted any CIA employee would participate I never doubted the CIA could tap into CR government files illicitly and get the pictures. I doubt immigration, which is really ICE, has that ability except at the highest levels. Anyone that high up in the food chain would never give wifey pictures." That makes no sense to me. For someone at the CIA to access that info they would have to tap into CR govt. files (or get someone in the CR govt. to voluntarily release it). But why would someone at ICE need to hack into anything since they are the government agency that normally deals with those sorts of records. In other words, its their own database. Since the deal with such records routinely, I seriously doubt that only the highest levels can access it. And, in fact to answer Hank's objection, a higher level ICE exec like his friend probably would be unlikely to get involved because a) they have more to lose if caught and b) higher-ups at ICE probably don't normally get as involved in the detail work of handling individual files as the clerical staff and so such a request would probably stand out more. Xman provided a perfectly plausible example of how wuch information could have been obtained from someone at ICE.

But even if you don't think she could have obtained it in that way, that still doesn't necessarily make this guy a liar. He was only saying what his wife told him how she got the photos. Maybe she was the one lying for some reason and she really obtained them through other means. Kickstand proposed a possible explanation of how she got the photos and why she might have lied about how she got them. And even Hank proposed a similar explanation as well.

@Xman - your one area of skepticism when it came to your gov't leak scenario was that you think it would have opened up whoever leaked it to criminal and civil penalties. But that all presupposes he (or she) really had that great a risk of getting caught. After all, we all know how devoid of any corruption the CR gov't is, ... NOT.

@Herman - c'mon, can't we cut this poor guy any slack. Everyone is calling him a liar, because certain parts of his story (or the story as retold by VB including details as told by his wife) don't make complete sense. But at least their are reasonable grounds to raise those questions. But you're getting on his back because, OMG, he used all CAPS. Lighten up. I know conventional internet etiquette considers that like shouting and therefore rude, but not all people are as versed in internet etiquette as a bunch of guys who practically live on-line at CRT. Not everyone realizes about the "CAPS thing". This guy came on to our forum at the invitation of one of our members to face inquisitors who were already skeptical and even hostile to his story in an effort to answer our questions. And rather than just focus on the content of his words, your busting his balls over using all CAPS?

While I also tend to disbelieve certain aspects of the story, I also know how easy it would be to bribe a desk clerk or most anyone else in CR for that matter. Money does a lot of talking in CR. With the little amount a desk clerk (or most other people) makes, if you flashed a couple of hundred dollars in front of them and asked them to jump, they would most likely respond by saying 'how high?'.

Are you seriously suggesting the ICE has a database that contains a photograph of every person in the world who has a passport, cedula or some other government issued ID? Because that's what it would take based on your scenario and the narrative of the husband. Here what he said, notice he said, not VB.

Only thing left for me to say is Pinocchio your nose is growing. Look at the story as VB told it to start with and look at what you wrote after being questioned about it . When you tell a big lie you have to support it with a lot of little ones. It is those little ones that change and unravel the big one. I could go line by line but I do not need too. Have a great Day Uncle H.

Prolijo,

I don't completely doubt that someone could get busted this way - anything is possible with $ being floated (we know we don't get all these young beautiful girls because of our magnetic personalities alone  )

What I was trying to point out were the contradictions within his own posting, not even between VB's telling and his re-telling of the story.

He said he was at the Del Rey posting. He said he spoke to both Del Rey managers Gabby and Manuel about the issue and GOT THEIR RESPONSE (weak as it seems).
Later he points out that he is staying at The Presidente this trip and is being treated like royalty by both Gabby and Manuel (I don't know, do they manage both hotels?)
Then he says he has emailed the Del Rey many times since the last trip and has GOTTEN NO RESPONSE.

These are the things that seem like Bull to me, not that it could happen at all, but that even his story within one single posting does not hold up.

I don't doubt that this guy got busted by his wife but I do doubt the story he created to cover-up his stupidity. One internet search by wifey will tell her what goes on in CR regardless of what hotel he is staying at. Her knowing his taste in working ladies and whatever other "investigation" she did was an easy way to confront him with or without the goods. The photos were probably the ones he took of his favoritas with the family camera and carelessly forgot to delete them. The CIA/ICE story is more interesting but lee likely and without that cover story, we would not have 5 pages of this spy saga.

Happy Mothers Day.

Speculation:

If true 99% probability private investigator involved. Very poor job of covering trail. Wife finds CRT on computer at home. Wife reads CRT. Wife gets name of private investigator off of CIT. Wife not stupid. Wife now reading this thread laughing her ass off. Moral of the story don't have wife. Me no stupid no wife stay where I like do what I like.

Are you seriously suggesting the ICE has a database that contains a photograph of every person in the world who has a passport, cedula or some other government issued ID? Because that's what it would take based on your scenario and the narrative of the husband. Here what he said, notice he said, not VB.

Quote:

You're twisting what I said a little bit and extending it to a ridiculous extreme. Of course, I didn't mean to suggest that ICE has a database that contains a photograph of every person in the world who has a passport, cedula or some other government issued ID. But they should have some sort of record of every person who has passed through immigration into CR or have had previous dealings with ICE (e.g. previously deported Nicas who might have snuck back into the country). And, being a CR government agency, they MIGHT have the ability to interface with other CR government agencies that have other information on various persons in the country and be able to obtain at least some of that information without having to hack their way into those other agencies' databases. So my comments were not quite as ridiculous as you tried to make them seem.

OTOH, while photos of Ticas might be quite accessible to certain government employees from copies of their photos submitted or taken when they applied for their CR cedulas, photos of foreign visitors who might have even snuck into the country illegally (i.e. bypassing immigration as may be the case with many Nicas) might not be so readily found. However, passport technology has advanced considerably. They now contain barcodes and/or even microchips. So when a foreign visitor passes through immigration and has their passport run through a computer slot, who really knows what information (including possibly the photo) is being pulled into their records. I'm not saying that ICE is definitely quite that sophisticated yet. I'm just saying it may be possible.

BUT EVEN IF IT ISN'T, I was just presenting that as one possible scenario explaining how his wife obtained the photos. There have been a lot of scenarios put forward including that, for some reason known with certainty only to her, his wife LIED TO HIM about how she got the photos and actually got them as others have suggested through the aid of a local investigator.

And even if this guy got this PART of his story mixed up or even made up the story altogether, the point I've been making from the very beginning has been that the CORE PART of his story, that someone at the HDR divulged personal information about one of its guests, is very believable WHETHER IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO THIS PARTICULAR GUY OR NOT. The various scenarios that I and others have put forward (about one sloppy desk clerk not following hotel policy, if any such policy even exists, or deliberately breaking the rules when enticed by a sufficient bribe, or even being secretly tailed by a hired PI) are ones that could certainly happen to anyone who was under suspicion by their spouse.
-------------

LIK, actually I also noticed that the way he wrote it initially made it sound like he was saying Gabby and Manuel were managing at the Prez, and was similarly confused by it too. Since no one had commented on it, neither did I. However, now that you bring it up, while the way he worded it was poor, I don't necessarily see the inconsistency. After what happened, or he says happened with his wife, he naturally chose a different hotel (actually if I were him I'd have chosen to cool it on my CR trips for a while). That doesn't mean he wouldn't have gone back to the HDR, to confront the managers about it AND simply do all the things that so many of do there at the BM Bar. I'm sure that talking to Gabby and/or Manny, to report what happened and get some answers from them on what they were going to do about it would have been his first order of business. And what were they going to say? "That never happened. You're a liar. Now go away."? Or "I'm so sorry. We'll look into it. There's really not much we can do about that but is there anything else we can do to make it up to you?"? Like I said earlier, if some staff member was bribed and divulged that sort of info, without knowing which one it was or having any way of finding out who it was or proving it was him even if they did have someone in particular under suspicion, there probably really isn't much else that the HDR can practically do other than to appear apologetic and as gracious as possible towards the victim for the rest of his time there, in the hopes they can somehow salvage part of his business (and not get FURTHER burned by his spreading around about their breach in security).

And, lastly, regarding their lack of e-mail response prior to that, should that really surprise anyone either? The HDR, like many CR businesses, is notorious for their lack of responsiveness to e-mail communications. And, in this case what were they going to e-mail back? "Sorry, we looked into it, but weren't able to find who on our staff was responsible. Too bad. Have a nice day."? OTOH, when confronted with it directly face-to-face, Gabby and Manny HAD to respond in some way, and as managers they knew that they had to exercise at least some level of customer relations skill.
--------

Hank, I assume when you said "lies half truths and rummors" that you were referring to the lies, half truths and rumors that some of us tell our WIVES and NOT suggesting one way or the other whether this guy was lying to US.

Broadway, given CR's reputation, wifey may strongly suspect what hubby is going to CR for regardless of what hotel he is staying at BUT if she ALSO knows or finds out he is staying at the HDR then one internet search about that will remove just about any remaining doubt. BTW, I don't doubt that this guy got busted by his wife either NOR do I doubt the STORY he created to cover-up his stupidity. What I doubt is that his wife really completely FELL for that story.

Lee, actually VB said that this guy is NOT a CRT member though, I suppose, that doesn't necessarily mean he hasn't ever viewed our forum and his wife found us that way. I find it even less likely that she found us independently and read through the site sufficiently to find this particular thread about her own marriage but, I suppose, anything is possible. However, if she did then she is showing considerably better research ability than her own husband, who probably would have done very well to read more of this forum before he undertook to cheat on his wife. I agree with you 100%. Very poor job of covering trail. If you are married, then don't stay at a world-renowned brothel and CERTAINLY don't put it on a credit card where your wife can find out the documented evidence. Better yet don't even get married in the first place so you don't have to worry about stupid shit like this.

This has certainly been an interesting thread. Personally, I do not think Vegas Bob has any reason whatsoever to lie about this. He simply passed on info that he got from this guy. Many of us know VB, and we know that he's not the kind of guy who would intentionally post a bullshit story.

With that being said, I think the thing that surprises me the most about this whole thing - is the fact that - with EVERYTHING that has allegedly happened to this guy - and he's BACK IN CR AGAIN!!!

I guess he's a sucker for punishment....

I neither twisted your words or took them to a ridiculous extreme. I simply asked if you meant what your statement implied. This is what I wrote.

Quote:

Now lets look into what you now say.

Quote:
But they should have some sort of record of every person who has passed through immigration into CR

Why would Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) an agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security have any record of people passing through CR immigration?

Quote:
previously deported Nicas who might have snuck back into the country

What relevance do Nica's who have been deported from the U.S. and snuck back in to the U.S. have to this discussion? Obviously U.S. Customs and Border Enforcement would not have any concern if Nica's had been deported from CR and returned to CR which would make them relevant to this discussion.

Quote:
And, being a CR government agency, they MIGHT have the ability to interface with other CR government agencies

As I previously pointed out in this thread ICE that is referred to in this thread is a U.S. government agency. The CR government agency that uses that same acronym is in the business of providing electrical service and telephone service to residents of Costa Rica and most likely has no need or little interest in compiling a comprehensive data base with photographs of every resident, legal and illegal, in Costa Rica or obtaining that information from an other CR government agency if any CR agency did indeed maintain such a data base.
