i am one of the most outspoken CD detractors and find little redeeming about the guy
he inflicted this on himself
but motherfucker this is just wrong on so many levels
the closing of businesses and the change of the scene can't be denied at this point
this hobby should never be on blast like his arrogant ass made it
but i am now on the side of this shit isn't right and this country is hypocrites masquerading
your women Phuck for money and everyone knows it
he deserved something but this is phucked up
CR jails are more than rough having spent one night in it
the point was made long ago and a death sentence was clearly just handed down
Phuck YOU CR

Man, this sucks. I was hoping he would get time served and shown the door to the country. I find it odd that one of the judges opined to the effect, "that he was degrading CR society because sex with prostitutes contributes to an eroding society." Hello? It is legal and I wonder what the percentage of Ticos vs. Gringos is having sex with prostitutes? You know it's gotta be majorly lopsided. C'mon, are you going to tell me a Key West blogger with a gringo audience is the cause of prostitution and its effect on CR society in CR? Give me a break, looks more and more like the fix was in on this one. Imagine this in a US courtroom with just a halfway decent attorney.......

I never thought this CD saga would move the needle on CR sex tourism, but with this, it definitely will. Mission accomplished. I agree with the many posters who don't think Dave will live out his sentence. The aging on him in this short time is freaking unreal. Shocking, really. Hopefully, he gets an early release. Talk about a life lived, not commensurate to go that way. He must be rethinking all that advice to tone it down he quickly shrugged off.

From the article:

Quote:
The second and final day of trial also included words from Public Ministry prosecutor María Quesada, testimony from Strecker himself, and the presentation of Strecker’s since-deleted YouTube videos where he discusses the San José sex tourism scene. Quesada requested that Strecker serve 15 years of prison time, offering up three counts of sex tourism – one each for a YouTube channel, Facebook page, and Cuba Dave postings on the sex tourism blog T*******.com.

This has to be concerning. The prosecutor wanted to charge him for posting on a CR monger blog. The owner of that site states that Cuba Dave never posted on that site. Perhaps the prosecutor and/or the writer of the article confused T******* with another popular CR site??

Agreed. It should be concerning to all.

I guess we are all up for at least five years then for posting here  , if this argument is to be believed...

You are repeating my point made earlier....we all post information related to sex tourism. Isn't that subject what this forum and website is all about?

If cd had had money to hire a top notch lawyer, he would be home.

Main reason there is nothing left in cr for most of us.

Have talked to many old time members of this board about this.

Consensus is now that a precedent has been set. Who / What is next. Del Rey, Sportsmens ? Guys who have posted information to share here ?

One of many reasons I won't be ending my 4 year hiatus anytime soon.

Cheaper and more fun a little further south anyway. 8)

This case had way too much estrogen for CD to have a fighting chance:

2 female judges
1 female prosecutor
1 female representing a foundation that made the complaint.
vs.
1 blogging horny gringo

And no financial resources, nor the right "contacts" to have the case dismissed off hand....just a sad image of an aged CD in a poorly fitting, wrinkled plaid shirt. Sad ending, undeserved.

Indeed. As I predicted that he would be sentenced to three or four years, I'm not too surprised at his sentence. What 'did him in' was the sheer volume of videos and images spread across various websites.
The precedent has been set. The rather sad thing, as regards to Cuba Dave, is the ambiguousness of the law as written.
As to the affect on the Gulch, I doubt the HDR, or SL for that matter, will be closing any time soon.

For the last ten years or so I have frequented CR about once every two months. I will now considerably cut those trips down if not completely change destinations. This will embolden CR to now target anyone they want that blogs with little or no recourse to fight it. Once you arrive and they want you it's too late, your done. Your head is in the sand if you think anyone if us is immune.

I don't ever want to be in that position and I hope it happens to nobody else. Probably CD will not make it out alive from the looks of him.

Sad story all the way around.

I brought my CRT card with me on trip 2. I won't be bringing it on trip 3. Saw SJO authorities rifling thru a Gringo's wallet last time I flew out of Aeropuerto. Don't need to be asked "Que es esto?" by any Locals that know the CD situation and/or give Gringos the judgemental stink eye!

Can't use it with Amistad/Castillo all-inclusive and Jimmy is shutting down Zona II. :(

Thanks for the info. That is ridiculous that time served doesn't count. Having said that, their law is their law. Maybe they gave him this sentence to have him released on humanitarian basis in 6-12 months. One can only hope that is so.

I understand that this may have been explained before but what EXACTLY did he do wrong. Was it the posting and answering questions for mongerers? Was it for providing tours and "walk-a-longs" with mongerers giving them all the local information? Did any evidence show that he ACTUALLY received benefits from the above like money, drinks or lodging?

Would appreciate anyone that knows details and a little about the law answer, if possible. I guess the question is: If I go to Cr and do general mongering stuff, is that enough for charges like Cubadave.

Have a Great Day,

Dave

Altho, for many years, I used to spend 3 to 4 months a year in CR, that has been cut down over the last 4 years. With so many exciting venues, why put up with this CR shit. Now I come down once a year, while exploring other venues- Cuba, Panama, Colombia,DR, Thailand. CR looks like a fading image in a rear view mirror
