Very interesting discussion. I, like many, have spent a lot of time considering moving to Costa Rica permanently. I plan to visit in November for more than the hobby and I've made some friends here who have business interests. But I'll be moving slowly and carefully. Everyone's input here is helpful to me. However, I feel the need to respond to one in particular.

Thanks for the list of reasons. However, I must say that I don't find them too compelling for me. Money isn't an issue for me so the cheaper living wouldn't make it worthwhile.
I don't mean to pick on you Dave. You seem like a thoughtful person. And perhaps people won't agree with me, but could you just keep that fact to yourself while the rest of us slugs try to make ends meet?

Please, someone again tell me why it would be better to live in Costa Rica. I am especially interested in someone telling me about the advantages WITHOUT using the words young ticas and p*ssy.
And the answer is MONEY. There certainly can be more answers, but that's the overwhelming starting point. Clearly you can't relate to this reason to move to Costa Rica because you don't have that problem. Those Americans who, as you say, "preach problems" have a problem you don't have. I hate to quote such a corny, tired speech from the last election, but there are "two Americas", and you and I aren't in the same one.
I hope I haven't offended anyone, including you Dave. But I think your comfortable lifestyle has clouded your judgement on what really goes on in your country.
