A few years ago a Canadian cell phone provider did something that shocked the industry. They sent a letter to a specific few hundred of their customers which, in a nutshell, refunded their money and immediately cancelled their contract. The letter stated (paraphrase) that we cannot satisfy your needs so please find another provider.

When the provider was asked to comment they stated that a small percentage of the same customers call in repeatedly to complain about the service and are never satisfied. The cell phone provider's analysis indicated that losing the revenue was much more preferable than the hassle of dealing with a few problem customers.

Perhaps its time to cull the herd.

I think everyone agrees that the board needed more moderation than there was in the past. But it went from one extreme to the other... OVERNIGHT! In my opinion, what has been happening lately is not moderation. It's just plain censoring. People are going to disagree with one another, and people are gonna bust some balls. Especially knowing that we ALL come from different walks of life, with different personalities and different backgrounds. But the one thing that I really liked about Tomas in the past, was that he was adamant that he would NOT censor posts. Granted, there was always the occasional troll who'd come in and stir up some shit, but he always kept things going in the right direction, and he built CRT to the site it as become today.

I've been around this site for a little while, and I know many, many members personally. I've contributed a lot of information and assistance to the forum and to many members over the years with almost 8,000 posts, and I've been to countless CRT events. But lately, the vibe on this board had gotten extremely ugly, to the point of members (more than 1) consulting with their attorneys, getting legal counsel and talking to authorities at the OIJ due to some of the current events. And from what I understand, serious illegal activities are being endorsed by CRT, and even being promoted. And that's not a good thing. But take it for what it's worth.

There's a problem here that needs to be fixed, and it needs to be fixed in a hurry. I would like to be optimistic about the future of this fine site, but that's becoming more and more difficult as time goes on. I guess we'll just have to let the cards fall where they may...

I did not realize there was trouble in paradise. The last time I was in the gulch was over 4 years ago. Back then, it was still like Mayberry. But I can understand how a mongering mecca may draw illicit elements. You have my imagination working overtime with this statement, though:

And they had enough foresight to make copies of posts (some of which have since been deleted) from sponsors that "allegedly" promoted illegal activities, per Costa Rican Law. Again, this is "word on the street" info, but have no illusions here... the "back channel network" is certainly working overtime these past few weeks.

And BlueDevil - my friend, you KNOW me. So take this information as you may. But as I stated before, we're going to have to let the cards fall where they may. I'm just thankful that I have no financial or vested interest in CostaRicaTicas.com

Strictly IMO.....

People that feel good about themselves, generally do not feel the need to pump themselves up at the expense of others. Negative energy is something that a person likes to get rid of. They tend to throw out their verbal anger, which for the short term, makes them feel better. If I accept their anger, I now feel worse and they feel better. It is a win for them. If I do not take in their anger I feel better and they feel worse, a win for me. This is from a person who was once told by a shrink that, "You use words like a sword to cut as deep as you can". As my ex once said, "You do not get mad, you get even". While I am still judgmental, my judgment does not have to be right anymore. Show me the error of my ways and I will change that judgment easily.

Just because someone has taken a verbal/written shot at me does not mean that I have to take it in. What is in it for me to take in someone's anger when I do not know them, and they do not know me. If I am at a good point mentally this will not have an effect on me. I will say that when it has happened, I actually looked at what was said to see what part of it might be true. Many times there are truths about what one is saying, although they may be going about it in a way that upsets my psyche. I can learn much more from those who do not agree with me than I ever will from those who do.

If someone physically attacks you, all bets are off, and get ready to catch the world. I am at a much better place in life since I stopped taking in others negative energy.

As always I have my asbestos underwear on, so let the flaming begin.

CRT has never, is not currently, nor will EVER endorse any kind of illegal activity as stated in our Forum Rules and Regulations (viewtopic.php?f=25&t=42942). We have not been informed of any posts or advertisements of illegal activities of any kind. We have not received any notice from any attorney, personal or otherwise with regards to content on our site.



It is accurate, however, that members WOULD have had to "make copies of posts" containing any kind of illegal content because it is CRT's policy to immediately delete such content from the pages of our web site. Again (viewtopic.php?f=25&t=42942).

I appeal now, again, to all CRT members to please report SPECIFICS of any kind of alleged illegal activity to myself or one of the other moderators so that the issue can be dealt with immediately.

To clear up any confusion here:

Again, I made it clear in my post that it was "word on the street" info, and I also said "take it for what it's worth". There is a LOT of talk going on lately (behind the scenes) about recent events, new "moderation", members being banned, etc. and there are some members who are absolutely furious about the new direction of the board, current censorship/moderation of the board, feelings of unjustly being banned, and so on. I guess if you push someone hard enough, ya never know what they'll do. We see this on the news every day. Is it all smoke & mirrors? I have no idea. But if the Admin(s) want to delete my post(s) on the subject, it's understandable. I have no dog in this fight. I'm just a bystander...

I have no idea what's going on "behind the scene" but things have gotten ugly and it's a shame. Obviously the board has needed better moderation for a while but the new Admins methods are overboard and makes one wonder if there's some agenda or is it just ignorance or spite? Time will tell how it will all shake out but things seem to be going in the wrong direction by discouraging participation and alienating sponsors.
I hear many long time members are getting so disgusted they have no more motivation to share info since posts are being edited, deleted and people banned when they don't fit the new Admins agenda. I've made many friends via CRT and always enjoy meeting new members when traveling and posting detailed reports but am just considering going elsewhere next vacation partly due to what's happening here.
If I were a CRT advertiser/sponsor I'd be nervous and ready to distance my business from this site if the downward spiral continues, may not be a big deal in the long run but some guys are talking about spending their money elsewhere.

I have been waiting for someone to post this ( hope I dont get banned) , my take : the guy who seemed to make the most trouble was (screen name but all were the same guy) vegan bob, randy444 and a few others, many members posted that it was ********, the day ******** was banned all the bullshit from the the other names stopped as well.

It been said the reason for him to do it was to try to ruin crt and get members to either come to his site or stop posting on crt......

Before my last trip I sent ******** a pm on his site and ask him point blank was he in fact vegan bob and the list of others he denied it saying I was an ass for even thinking it...I still had my doubts about it since some of things written about me were things that, the person writing would of had to come into contact with me at some point( brings me back to ********)

My last trip, I again ask ******** about it, he tells me he knows who the guy is (gives some bullshit name and says the guy is a jerk) which in turn, makes me know it was him all the time.

As for me, since his bullshit has left, the trouble that he made that pissed me off to the point of not posting, I enjoy the site, yes there are way less trip reports, less girl reviews and overall lack of things I loved most about the crt, I still look at the site everyday hoping there is a new report of someone I know or a girl I been wanting some info on, but if the start of the bullshit like veganbob start was removed or he was banned, we would of not gone about a year of his cheap shots and lies

I think there was a need for more moderation. However, I don't think posts should be edited. I also agree that some members definitely need an ousting for being nothing short of jack-asses. I have lived in Costa Rica for over six years. I have gone through the gulch and definitely escaped it unharmed. I have tons of experience about living outside of the gulch and I have no desire to share any of it due to personal attacks. The attacks were started for two reasons:

1. I don't support turning working girls into Novias. I support renting them, but not buying them. This is my opinion and I'm entitled to it. If you don't like it, don't listen to it.
2. I called out a very popular member, who was considered a board leader, for being a bad apple several years back. I turned out to be correct, as this person's poor judgment and lack of morals, eventually led him to do some really bad things including beating women and stealing from board sponsors. This does not include all of the other bullshit, this guy left behind in CR, including debts, legal problems and a fatherless Ch*ld.

In this case, I think the board needed more than moderation. I think this member should have been given a criminal background check. However, none of this happened, and people got burned by him.

I'm not "worried" about Boyd. I'm disappointed that the people on this board thought he was so great, when he was nothing but a bottom feeder, scum-bag and scam artist. How many people loaned him cash here? Does he owe you money? Did he steal from you? Admin SHOULD NOT DO background checks on members of the board! BUT SPONSORS THAT EMPLOY MEMBERS SHOULD ABSOLUTELY DO BACKGROUND CHECKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why? Why the heck do you think? There are a some bad apples in the mix. It is best to get them out, so we can enjoy Costa Rica again. Whether it is banging chicks for $ or just having fun in the country. This board needs to become positive again!
