Perhaps some may not agree - however, personally I think Laura Chinchilla may make an excellent President in CR and be good for the country. Most of the ticos I know support her and even those who do not support her seem to think she is honest. She does not come from a rich family and lives in Desamparados - so if she is elected President then the President will live in Desamparados - I think that is kind of cool.

easy

While I agree she might make a very good President not sure about her family background. My understanding is that her father was the comptroller of CR some years back and resides in Escazu. Certainly there are areas of Escazu that are middle to lower income neighborhoods but there are also neighborhoods in Desamporados that are upscale. Like any area of most countries there are neighborhoods that go from very upscale to very lower income. Just saying you live in a certain barrio does not necessarily indicate your status. When you say you live in Miami that can range from Brickell to Overtown. A very wide disparity.

To put a little more meat on Brother ID's bones, I met a fun Chica at the HDR that said she lived in Desamparados...but was quick to add "San Miguel", which I'm guessing means one of the better parts. And then look at me--I live in an affluent township in Southern New Jersey (upper middle class, some sports stars, etc.) but my dwelling is in a downscale trailer park steps off the major highway. Just goes to show you...<signed> Trailer Trash Jazzbo

Brother DonCarlos brought up an interesting link. There are 14 different episodes in the series. Those 2 FP officers look look like some baaaad dudes--hope they never have a reason to jack me up...whether or not they put the food down.

Desampa is definitely a mixed bag. It's not all bad by any means, but there are a lot of large areas of slums, especially around the edges by the hills, lots of tin roof shacks (maybe not tin, but you get my drift). If you ask the girls where they are from (as I do routinely) you will hear 'Desamparados' quite often. Rent seems to be cheaper there, plus it's no secret that poor neighborhoods produce more prostitutes, per capita. Desampa and Alajuelita (not Alajuela) seem to be the most popular (?) places to live among hookers I know.

Has anyone actually read Mongers in Heaven? I'd like to know his take on HIV in the industry.
