US aid to 3rd world countries may not be 100% benign, but comparing what democratic countries like the US or even Taiwan do to what other countries like China or Venezuela do with their so-called aid is like comparing apples and oranges. If the US adds strings to its aid packages it is as likely to be to pressure donee countries to clean up their act on human rights as it is anything else (not-withstanding the ridiculous anti-abortion, abstinenance stance of the Bush religious right era). Just check out this highly relevant article from Friday's AMCostaRica:

Pro as I said before in deference to Admins request I really am not going to get into another political discussion.

I will say however that while your "my country right or wrong" approach while admirable seems to be overly narrow.

As to the AM Costa Rica article it quotes a report issued by "Freedom House, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, and Radio Free Asia" along with some additions by the AM Costa Rica editor. Gee what a surprise they reached the conclusions they published. You might also want to check out this endorsement by Jay Brodell, the editor, to get just a small clue as to where his perspective lies. http://www.amcostarica.com/102408.htm

I might also respectfully suggest you head your own advice.

Very impressive article from AMCostaRica, especially including the link to the study being quoted. Thanks for this, Brother Prolijo.

This was not a continuation of the side tangent about the Monroe Doctrine. This was newly available information posted by AM Costa Rica on Friday specifically addressing Chinese aid programs including the Soccer Stadium being built in Costa Rica using imported Chinese labor (ie it is directly relevant to the original topic).

As for the rest of your latest comments, you're right. No, not what you just added but the part about taking the rest off line. So, I'll just let it go rather than bothering to respond any further.
