I am proud to say I know Circus. He is as decent a man as I know, albeit a little on the "thrifty" side.

His is a long story and I won't attempt to tell it but if you found him other than I have described him I think you might have misread. Inflection is impossible on the internet.

Circus is a charter member of CRT. Most of us who were early members have met him and enjoyed his company.

Just check his profile and read his many posts and he will no longer be a " mysterious man".

First of all, before I go any further, I'd like to apologize to Fuzebox for all my comments in the 1st and last paragraphs of my first reply towards him. When I wrote that I was actually confusing him with another member (who shall go nameless) who I think HAS had a bug up his ass about me and HAS been acting like a Ritalin deprived narcoleptic little troll and only now realized my mistake. The reason for my confusion is because I recently got into a series of exchanges with Fuzebox in the same thread as I did with that other member. In that thread Fuzebox repeatedly ignored or misinterpreted key parts of my posts which addressed the very things that he'd then complain about, which suggests to me he wasn't even bothering to read what I was saying. And how can you fairly criticise something you haven't even completely read? However, despite those shortcomings in his posts at least most of his disagreements with me were fairly civilly stated.

So again, Fuze, I hope you understand my reasons and forgive what turned out to be my over-the-top response. I'm not so "full of myself" that I can't admit when I screw up, though I don't like to admit how often it unfortunately happens. Any way, I do NOT find you guilty of being a troll as I originally charged and hope that there are no hard feelings.

Criticism perhaps but exceedingly mild compared to the type of criticism that I was talking about that came from Fuzebox and Mike. Of course, you can call that splitting hairs (or "rants arguing semantics"). Perhaps, I should have a little clearer about what I meant by bolding and capitalizing the "I FIND" and adding a "personally" at the end, if that would have made any difference. I was trying to keep things a little shorter by leaving out some of my usual qualifiers and do toy see where that got me? I guess I'll have to go back to being more "long and drawn out."

Either way you should have noted a few things. First of all, "little value" is still more than no value and much better than "worthless dribble" as Mike described mine. In fact, I didn't actually even say that there was little value in his posts, only that was all that I found, which is not even a matter of opinion but a fact. I don't find much value in his posts FOR ME PERSONALLY. I never said that there was little value in his posts for some other guys. Which brings me to my second point. I didn't question how anyone else could find Florida's posts interesting (as Fuzebox said of my readers). In fact, I specifically acknowledged that many guys seem to enjoy Florida's banter AND specifically refrained from casting any judgment on them for that. Thirdly, my comments towards Florida were clearly devoid of any malice. I specifically said that I have nothing against him and deliberately avoided uses inflammatory emotionally charged words like "rants" or "worthless dribble". Fourthly and lastly, the only reason I even mentioned Florida was not to maliciously attack him but rather to make a point how, if someone annoys you as much as I apparently annoy these 2 guys (and, I might add, as long as that someone is not addressing you or discussing you personally), it is easy enough just to skip his posts as I do with Florida (sorry, FL, but I'm sure you understand).

Circus has been a member of this forum from close to the very beginning. Like several of us that are still around, (e.g. Florida, VB, Gringotim, Ace, CRMonger , and of course Gamlingman  ), there was a mass migration from another CR forum that was imploding at the time. How long before that Circus was a member of that forum (CRS), I couldn't really say. I just know he was already a member there when I discovered it sometime around 2001-2002. I've only met him personally a couple of times and that was several years ago at this point but I can tell you that he was/is as memorable in person as he is on this board. BTW, ID was also a member of CRS but under a different handle (I forget, what was it ID?) even though the date on his profile suggests he came over several months later (how was that, ID?).

Any way, back on Circus, everybody has their favorite story about him. For many it involves his "girlfriend" Huggy who could often be found at Circus's side when he was in the Gulch. I won't say too much about Huggy except to say that "she" was even more full of hot air than was Circus. Circus is a little on the "thrifty" side but, I'm pretty sure that his relationship with Huggy was just a sham "marriage" and that Circus only "dated her" for laughs rather than because he could have his way with her any time he wanted to for free. I do know that he liked to stay at the Morazon (and even got mugged by a bunch of transvestites right in front of it one time). That place is certainly cheap and basic but it it still a lot pricier than the CCI. which I'm also sure has never had Circus as a guest. Another thing that I always remember about Circus that was a testimony to his thriftiness (among other things) was the unique collection he carried around with him in his little belly pack and which always made a suspicious little tinkling sound whenever he walked around.

Ah Circus, I do miss having you around. If you happen to be reading this I hope you're well and will make a return guest appearance here some time. I've always enjoyed reading your posts.

I said that some might call it splitting hairs but you can call responding point by point if you want. I also said that you should have noted those key differences that I pointed out, but that didn't mean that I felt you actually needed to respond point by point (after all, that's my job ). What I meant was if you had noted those differences yourself BEFORE you made your post then you wouldn't have even felt the need to make your post to begin with. Any way, my one key point was that there was a significant difference in the type of criticism that ID and I were talking about and the parenthetical comment I made about Florida, which was just used to illustrate how simple it is for ANY of us to skip over ANYONE ELSE who either "annoyed them more than anyone they've ever read" or simply finds "little value for themselves in their posts".

Evidently those facts did not speak sufficiently for themselves which just goes to show why I always feel the need to add more to my posts to try to prevent those misunderstandings. ID can trust others to "fill in the blanks" but I often find people filling them incorrectly.

Anyway, Fuzebox is absolutely correct that this thread has gone way off topic. I thought the original topic was SUPPOSED to be a good-natured POSITIVE one on "various people that always post good and interesting information" and not a NEGATIVE and counter productive bitch-fest on who we don't like." Now, lets see, who first took us off topic with that?

Or, we could post a little more about posters we appreciate.

In general, I like to read newbie trip reports. They remind me what a candy store this place really is and I love the enthusiasm, tales of woe and tales of tails. It is very interesting to me to hear someone discuss a girl I know well, to see their take and to see what kind of crap she pulls on her way to act right or vamos!

In all, I think this is a pretty good group. We have the Intellects to break it down and bring the facts, the Statisticians to keep score, the Historians to provide a base and remind us of when, the Philosophers to make us think, the Rock Stars to bring the party and the Jokers to keep it light. A niche for everyone.

Thanks Pacifica55 and Prolijo:

That man must be old as dirt, just kidding. I stumbled onto a video about his "Circus Cardboard Inns." DAMN, that was funny. I supppose it was filmed in SJ and by an hombre known as DonPapi.....don't know him. Where they came up with that idea I'm not sure but definitely a stab at some of the things we do not like about SJ. That Heidi was hot along with Roccio. I would sure like to know those two ladies.

Anyway, I appreciate the short history on circus. Really a unique man. Too bad he no longer posts but that happens with threads. I look forward to the active posters and hope there is humility among them.

Mule

Here I go again... :D

First off, for those of you who speak no Spanish.... '"prolijo" is Spanish for "tedious." No joke. And remember, Prolijo gave himself that name, and with good humor I might add. I find his posts to be almost completely worthwhile and not tough to read. There have been exceptions, and I will criticize him on the rare occasions when he goes a bit overboard. :D

Circus: Very much alive and well, living in the Pits of Jax with his cat, Shitass. I just talked with him at length Saturday last. :D He's grumpy, of course. I am proud to call Circus one of my best friends in this world. And BTW, his knowledge of the history of San Jose and the scene have few equals, among them Irish Drifter, Vegas Bob and a few other old farts. :P

My own participation on CRT varies from every day to one pass every few weeks, depending on my work schedule. Others have more free time and are motivated to post more frequently than even I do.

Regarding Florida and Squidface: Please understand that each time someone uses an emoticon (and BTW, it is pronounced "ee-MOH-ti-kon," not "ee-moe-shi-kon.), my screen readerr says "Graphic - Twisted Evil" and the like. In a robotic voice. Imagine trying to make it through one Florida post. I should record my computer reading one of Florida's posts aloud and post it, so you can share my pain. I will no longer read Last Post... or Ball Shaving... or What are you Drinking... or any other post where Florida or Squidface are trying to out-emoticon each other.

I have also noticed that a lot of posters here enjoy rancor or downright adolescent drama-queen bullsh*t.
I've run out of patience with some guys, as I'm sure they have with me.

Favorite posters: It's tough to say. Some posters are knowledgeable but are damn arrogant about it and too cocksure of themselves. Others however just sort of lie back and wait to make solid contributions. I really appreciate them, particularly since many of the regular posters here are friends of mine who have helped me to more thoroughly enjoy my Costa Rica trips.
