That's what I love about CR (and a few other places). It is so different from life in Memphis and most other places in the USA that I have been.
I really treasure my time there, not only with the chicas, but with the fellas at the bar, the staff at SL and other places.
I have read that to stand out at a bar, every person needs a "gimmick". It could be looks, ability to tell a good joke, etc. It seems to me that often just being from another country can be a "gimmick". It has certainly worked well for me at bars in CR, Ukraine, and pretty much everywhere else. Open your mouth in a London pub and for the rest of the night you're "the Yank" -- usually in a good-natured way.
