KC, the problem is that you hang around the wrong crowd, or maybe you're attracted to those kind of people. A Latino is the best friend you can ever have...if your friendship is sincere. For example, a couple of years ago I had to borrow $1500 from a friend and when I paid him back, he got mad. I had to pay him with a cashier's check and mail it to him, otherwise he wouldn't have take it. Would a gringo do that? More likely he would charge me interest!

Sorry Bro ..... no offense intended. I choose the wrong words.

One thing that I have learned to adapt to in Latin cultures is that what Gringos define as "the truth" in the USA might not be so cut and dried / Black or White for a Latino. Latinos in general take a few more liberties and may be a little more creative in their story telling.

I am not saying Latinos are dishonest in terms of lacking integrity, perhaps more creative in what they consider truthful.

For me personally, I love the Costa Rican people. I live in a Tico community and I love it there. I dread returning to the US and having to deal with all the asshole there.

I doubt you turned honest the instant you became an American citizen. :D
I believe what KC was getting at (and he's a big boy so if he wants to he can explain himself) is that when gringos go to CR (such as the gentlemen on this board), it is not realistic to expect the locals to be 100% honest. That is not a Latino thing, it is human nature. I am sure I will get flamed for this, but if you go to Brazil, France, Greece, Russia, wherever, as an American, you will be looked at differently. We have brought this upon ourselves with our politics and behavior abroad (I have seen some Americans behaving very badly in my travels). Not to mention our introduction of all things American abroad (McDonalds, Walmart, etc).
I have met plenty of people over the years (Brasilians, Frenchmen, Grecians, English) in their native land who were very honest and good to me. But they didn't encounter me in their country for the sole purpose of paying for sexo.

And, respectfully, this thread began with one member's thoughts on older guys finding love with younger hookers in the gulch. :D

Not certain how I got dragged into this.... For the record, I'm 37 and my ex was 24 and my new one is 25. This is just a little younger than what I would date in the states. They also are NOT and never have been prostitutes. If you were to see us in public, you wouldn't blink an eye.

Concerning morality... I have no problems with prostitution or mongering. I have a problem with dating hookers or ex-hookers for these reasons:

1. IT BLOWS IN THE FACE OF ALL COMMON WISDOM ON THIS BOARD
2. I respect myself and can't look in the mirror knowing I'm dating a hooker
3. I don't want all the garbage that these chicas drag with them

IMHO... dating a prostitute is a sign of lack of self respect. It is sooo easy to pickup regular chicas. It also tells me that you lack the security to actually walk-up to a girl, start a conversation, and perhaps get rejected or perhaps start the flirting process. If you leave fantasy land (the gluch), reality will smack you in the face. With a few caveats, the courtship process in CR is no different than in any other country in the world.

One side question Chi: didn't you just feel like taking a break from a chica at all after a long term relationship? haha I guess it is just me, but seems like a little rest from Latina drama would be necesary.

Reality Check: I am not sure why our friend Chi would feel the need to explain any of this, especially the fact that he is dating civilians.

Dating is just dating, right?

Hell, I'm envious of Chi. I get my haircut in Escazu and it is definitely a great fishing hole. Lots of nice looking, non pros. Saw a pharmacist recently that was drop dead gorgeous and dressed and detailed in a very classy way.

He would if he could, but he's just such an awesomely sexy bitch that these hot non-pros just throw themselves at his feet the minute he ventures outside of his Escazu digs. In fact, I've been there when they actually queue up in the driveway chanting "Queremos Chi-Trekker!!!" and waving signs saying "Llevame ahora, rico papi Gringo" and the like. It's all he can do to fight through the chica throng as they trail him all the way to the Mas x Menos on his nightly beer run.

We should all be so fortunate...

8) Gentlsmen,
So am I to understand that if I'm "old" I should not come to SJ for a mongering vacation? I wish I would have had this information before I spent $ on a AA ticket. Oh well I have the ticket I'll just go to SJ sit in my room and wait for my flight back to the "old folks home". NOT.
Thanks

Wit,

It's clear that with a Student VISA, her son is included, but it's unclear whether he will also be able to attend school in the US. I certainly agree on the prenup, but I hear that in Florida, a prenup that just sends a girl back to CR is unenforcable and there by revocable. If all goes well while she is in school and it makes sense to get married, then a prenup of greater substance is reasonable. She's eager to get married, I'm looking for every delay that I can find for obvious reasons. :)

KC,
As I have talked with her over the months about coming to the US, I have stressed the importance we gringos place on personal intergrity, ethics and honesty. In my world it is vital to who I am and what I do for a living. Fortunately her grandmother raised her during her early years in Nicaragua and she seems to have a sense of integrity and honesty that I've noticed many Ticas lack. I've also made it a big deal out of even the small lies and hope that I have not missed seeing the big ones. I'm also comforted that when she's lied to me she's been a very poor liar. It's been rather obvious to me when she's lied. AT least I think it has.

If everyone older than Getrythm stayed home, there would be none of us in CR who can ask the girls for the "senior discount" That and the "small penis discount" has saved many of us a lot of money.

Surely it works for you too, doesn't it!?

Remember, if you can get a girl to laugh, you can persuade her do most anything.

Lenny,

I am sure she has been well couched and I don't doubt your relationship.

Forgive me for playing devils advocate.. Obviously I don't know either of you.

All I can say is that you should expect her to start thinking a little more for herself once you she gets to the states and onto a new, more equal playing field. You are basically the one in the position to call all of the shots now while she is in Costa Rica. Once she gets to the states, you aren't playing quite as strong of a hand. I know that sounds a little crude, but there is always a little bit of struggle for control in every relationship with a woman don't you think?

Once you get her to the states the deck gets reshuffled. We all know that women can be difficult to predict. It is wise to expect the unexpected where women are concerned.
