You don`t need to talk to the drivers by phone if you are using Uber anyway.
Most Uber drivers will know that many people requesting a ride from the airport do not speak Spanish.
Otherwise just tell them what color shirt or jacket that you are wearing. Even if the connection fails... you have so many other options at the airport ready to drive you to your location. Its best to have the name and address of where you are going "if" you are not using a hotel arranged driver.

As Matt said in this thread the strike is over as soon as the rains hit normally by 2:00pm or earlier.

It is more than an inconvenience. Schools have closed, tourists are cancelling trips, there is a shortage of gas, etc. The people who can least afford it are being impacted the most.

I cancelled partly due to this and work even though I could work from there, figured best to reschedule given the circumstances.
And No, my favoritas are not happy but they will make due...

Again, it is primarily an inconvenience, especially for tourists / mongers. Yes, schools are closed. Are you going to school? Gas is available (we got a delivery today). Yes, in some places at certain times people can't get to work.

But not a single fisherman at our Lodge has had a single issue flying into SJO, going into Centro, or going back to SJO to fly out here (where the huelga is on TV).

Any monger dissuaded by the huelga shouldn't be.

... you'll get charged what it should have cost and be refunded the overage right away

Went on Uber website and disputed the route taken and I am getting a 12,000 colones refund.

Had a great time while I was there.
The only inconvenience caused by the strike was one taxi ride did have to go a few streets over to go around the
morning strike march.

There is no need to change your plans because of the strike.

Glad to hear it's not much of an issue. I got in and out with just a small inconvenience or two last week.

So far, as far as I could tell, it has only been weekdays, not weekends. Marching every day up Ave. 2 towards the Congress building area...and sometimes by the Presidents house... and sometimes just random blockades. It has been affecting hospitals among those other things already mentioned. But basically 0 impact on me when I was there the last couple of weeks that it has been on.

You will be fine. Support is waning and none of our customers have had a problem getting to and from the airport. They have to post where they are gathering and taxi/Uber avoidsthat area. If you have an early flight or late flight you won’t even notice a difference

were headed down calle 5 behind Holiday Inn, and turned on Avenida 7 to the INS building.

It was a group from ''ANEP" (The National Association of Public and Private Employees).

They made their way over to the INS building and I can still hear the faded angry shouting and ramblings...

I personally don't know anything about them, but the educated hard working Ticos that I know say they are overpaid spoiled government employees with fantastic benefits and pensions and don't agree with them.

If true, and I don't know enough to say it is, it looks like you can leave the USA and still see bureaucrats keeping the spoils for themselves while the hard working taxpayers keep taking it on the chin...

Oh well, at least it's not Nicaragua where young people yearning for opportunity and freedom keep getting cut down with bullets while expats there worry about not getting enough beer or missing their yoga classes...
