Ever heard of this guy Solomon?? It is rumored he once noted "A fool and his money are soon parted". Looks and seems to me that you already made up your mind before you ever posted and came here for a pat on the back?

Well, the precise wording of the expression comes just a little later, in Dr. John Bridges' Defence of the Government of the Church of England, 1587:

If they pay a penie or two pence more for the reddinesse of them..let them looke to that, a foole and his money is soone parted.

I stand corrected, WiseAsh....good catch as we find: http://mtbiblestudies.com/calendardate_ ... dy_529.htm (....and a gazillion more web sites...)...

Irrespective, the essential point is made, eh? :!: :P

Panzer007, when I initially went to CRDT about five years ago, they could run your credit card through an affiliate in Florida. It cost a little more, but not much. Maybe you have already discussed with Mike Lomax your situation of carrying cash. If not, I would ask him about alternative payment methods.

Not sure exactly where to post this, but here ya go....

I'm going to need to pay part % up front on my first day for dental. I'm getting a significant discount for paying in cash/US dollars. All told when done, including hotel cash discount, $15,000! I'm uncomfortable with carrying that much but is there an alternative? I can't think of one. Enlighten a brother or share your experiences, please

The short answer is that you have to declare the cash, both at the airport counter in the United States and to the customs agent when you enter Costa Rica.

There is a space on the Costa Rica customs form where you indicate that you have cash in excess of $10,000. You need to point it out and declare it to the aduana who will give you more paperwork to fill out, here in Costa Rica.

I would not go through the trouble of setting up your own bank account and sending the money electronically, unless you plan to do it frequently.

However, the doctor should be able to receive a wire transfer if you do it in advance, and I mean at least 2-3 weeks to sort it out.

How could he get a Bank Account without residency?

The only way to deal with a troll, if he's staying within board rules, is to ignore him

One aspect of all this that requires serious consideration and one that could cause a great deal of pain in the future, if not addressed and money wired is that of FATCA and resulting FBARs. A subject that does not seem to have been discussed anywhere on this board and one that should be of great interest to many of you.
