I personally sought ID's advice on several occasions for my dental - always factual - always an honest point of view. A voice of reasoning that will be sourly missed by Ig - R.I.P. ID

Very Sad News Indeed.... One of the Originals - One of the earliest Lifetime VIP members and someone I knew personally... Sorry to hear of his passing John could be confrontational on the site but it was never with Malice... From the times he attended South Florida Chapter Meetings to the many conversations I had with him over a Beer at the Sportsmen's may he R.I.P. with hope he has found Pura Vida in the Clouds...

You will be missed.

RIP Irish Drifter (John)

I am at an age (soon to be 66) where many of the old pharts are moving on to whatever is next. Give someone a hug today, tell them how much you admire them, call someone who you were once close with and may have had a falling out to make things right. You have the power to make someone's day.

I do not know if it is possible but I would like to see the SL, or HLH have a specials day (possibly on a weekend close to his passing), with Irish coffee, or Irish Whiskey, called the Irish Drifter Specials Day. He certainly was a special man, and hopefully will not be forgotten.

Health & happiness to all...............

I haven't posted a lot in recent years and haven't been to CR since 2009. When I did post, ID cracked my nuts more than once, but in a good way. (LOL)

I've been lurking for a few years and read many, if not most, of ID's posts. He was a true contributor to this site. I never met him, but I kinda feel like I lost a friend.

RIP ID

R.I.P. ID. We locked horns once over Security and whether to own firearms in C.R. but your knowledge/insight were well meaning. Thank you and sorry for any strife. :(

I've not posted on CRT for nearly a year but felt compelled to pay my respects to Irish Drifter, as he had always been very gentlemanly and respectful to me. He never hesitated to provide useful information to me and I will miss his presence. On one trip, early on in my CR travels, I brought him a quart of half and half, not available in CR. He never forgot the favor and thereafter always bought me a drink when I saw him.

He and others of the oldtimers made me feel very welcome in Costa Rica and I will always appreciate thier kindness.

RIP Irish Drifter!!

I had just mentioned him on another site talking about Happy Days. His favorite place from an earlier time in San Jose. Very sorry too here that he is gone.

I've read many of ID's posts over the years. He appeared to me to have a passion for getting the facts right and did not suffer well, posts (or posters) whom he perceived as fools.

I was unaware that he contributed so much for the welfare and benefit to Veterans and for this, I honor him.

Wow from reading some posts I found people will think I just crawled out of my grave....let me dust off a little.

I never met Irish that I know of but WOW he really knew CR very well. He & I would go at it at times with some posts but I believe that was his nature. I have a lot of respect for how he was & very sad to see him pass.

RIP John

John was a really nice guy. I haven't read the board for some time. This is sad indeed to lose someone who contributed so much.

I join with Vegas Bob and all the rest of you (some that I know and others I don't) in recognizing the contributions of Irish Drifter to this board as well as the genuine nice and helpful touches he was always doing. I lived in the same neighborhood as Irish Drifter and knew him fairly well - actually more as a nieghbor than as the most prolific writer on this board.

I agree it is not nice to use his real name and I hope that poster will go back and edit his post to not use his real name; maybe too late for that but it still is a good idea.

From what I saw Irish Drifter was happy and content to live out his last years in CR in relative peace and tranquility; he lived in a nice small secure rental apartment building and thanks to his landlord for helping him to be comfortable there.

So, along with so many others I say - Rest in peace and tranquility Irish Drifter!
