We (FAA air traffic control) hire virtually everyone who applies and haven't stopped for the past 3 to 5 years. Unfortunately it is the government, so you have to jump through the hoops correctly and be persistent. We even hire our own training failures into less-busy facilities. After all that hiring, my own area is desperately short of personnel to the point that we have all quit answering our phones in hopes of avoiding overtime and having 2 days off in a row.

Hiring requirement? High-school education and 3 years work experience (any work).

I applied to be an air traffic controller back in 1991. I took the test and scored a 95. I didn't get hired. When I called, I found out that women got +5 points and minorities got +5 points and veterans got +5 points.

That really chapped my ass. Set asides for federal jobs put me at a major disadvantage - not a problem with the veteran advantage, but a major problem with the other two. That was one of the formative events of my youth that shaped the political views I have today.

Who has a birthright to a particular job ? At 19, I had 10 guys working for me on a construction crew. At 24, I had to start over and wait tables. There are 168 hours in a week, one week I had 120 hours on the time clock at $2.13 per hour plus tips. I had to do that for a year to get back on my feet. That was embarrassing being a waiter serving my ex employees and business associates when they would come in to eat. "Hi, My name is jackass, who's business failed, I'll be your server today" But there were other people older than me doing the same thing.

I remember when Eastern airlines closed, many people in Atlanta had to find new work and they did. Now many of the business owners around Fayetteville Ga are ex Eastern employees.

Everyone is praying and hoping for jobs that are not available or do not exist. Guess what , my plumber charges $150 an hour. So guess what, go retrain and become a plumber or a dentist or auto-mechanic or whatever.

Faux News faithfully supported Bush and his minions throughout his two terms. This should be 'nuff said.

During the last couple of months of his second term, the country was losing jobs at the rate of close to a million a month, and virtually nothing was being done to stem these losses. We were quickly heading toward another great depression. Obama stemmed these losses and a steady flow of new jobs have been created, albeit too slowly.

Icant, as laudable as your experiences were, they are anecdotal and, therefore, of little value in discussing a network that backed the likes of Bush.

OK, so say in theory, I was to answer this post, but since discussing politics is against the agreed policy that voted down the political forum; if that didn't happen, I would answer:

As opposed to MSNBC and CNN, the New York Times, ABC NBC, CBS, Reuters, AP, USA TODAY, Time, Newsweek, etc, and all the rest of the Lame Stream Media not just supporting NOBOMA, but carrying his water for him? :?: :?: :?: :?: Check with any of these waterboys and they will cite the same unemployment figure: 9.1 or greater. :!: :!: :!:

Yeah, big sucess old Obamie has been creating Government Jobs paid for from the taxes of the productive class. :D And we are still at over 9.1 % unemployment, but somehow its still Bush's fault????   Obama is undoubtedly the Worst President since Herbert Hoover.  Jimmy Carter got an upgrade. :D :D :D

"Nuff said?" What are you 14 years old? Or did your sociology teacher give you that little piece of propaganda?

Stop drinking the Koolaid there bucky, you might learn something. :D Oh, yeah and have a nice day, isn't that what you wet nurse Libs like to say?

Of course, that is all academic because we have no political forum. :D

Gentlemen: Guess I was busy during our Anniversary Party weekend, can't believe I allowed this thread to go on as long as it did.

Don't know how many times I have to say the same thing there will be no politics here.
