I have stood there and just people watched; not just the eye candy but the whole environment. I noticed that if you are obviously a Gringo they don’t mess with you. If you look like a Tico they will probably wand you with the magic weapon detector.
Since so many Ticos are as white as me, and I look like I drink bleach every AM, I think the cue on dress.
Nearly all of the Gringos that go in there are in their Class "A" Monger Uniform

; blues jeans or shorts (Ticos almost never wear shorts in town or in public), white tennis shoes and a T-shirt which makes a statement (e.g., old guys rule), a golf shirt or an Aloha shirt (comeonIwannalayya).
As we have discussed before on other threads, Ticos wear dark pants, drab button up shirts, and dark shoes.
Of course there are exceptions; but just stand there and watch some day.
